I turned on one of my TV's today only to discover that there were 2 hideous pink vertical lines on the screen. It is an 50 inch LG Plasma TV (720p I believe) that is around 4 years old (not sure of that is correct). What is the problem with the TV, can it be fixed?

(The camera made the screen have black lines moving down)

I had this happen to my LG 60" last year except it was a green line in the dead center of the screen. the plasma panel is bad and the only way to fix it is to replace it.

the good news for me is even though my TV was 3 years old and no warranty. I called their corporate customer service # in AL not some generic customer support. they sent a local company out to open up my TV and replace the entire panel totally free. All i had to do is give them a proof of purchase which luckily I had.

It took a while though as the panel they sent was wrong at first and it was a bunch of back and forth. all in all it took about 3 weeks to get fixed.

the customer service rep was really nice she said that they stand behind their products 100%. I was pretty amazed they did this on a 3 year old TV with no warranty but they were great to deal with.

im not sure if the panel they put in was new or refurbished but either way it works. the tech who came out said the panel costs as much as what you can buy a new TV for and if I had to pay for it I wouldnt have done it

I just googled the # and I think its this

1-847-941-8181

If that doesnt work its honestly going to be cheaper to go buy a new TV as much as those replacement panels cost.

I bought a LG 50" 1080p plasma in December for like $549 at HH Greg

It can sometimes be due to a loose connection where the ribbon cable for the panel joins the circuit board. Plasma's are divided in to wide vertical bands with a cable each and it looks like an issue on one of those.

Sometimes it can be fixed, sometimes the cables burn out inside the glass (which is fused together) which would require a new panel.

I've got a 60" Sony rear-projection TV which has a bunch of blue specks in the middle of the screen, as well as a large yellow translucent stain on the top right of the screen, which is steadily getting bigger. It looks like somebody urinated on it. Does anybody have an idea of why this is happening?

Do you have a picture?

Being that it's projection it might be that the inside of the screen and cabinet has gotten dirty over time. Or the mirror might have some dirt on it projecting it on to the screen. Also the screen film itself can degrade over time which might explain the yellowing.
