Today while I was going to buy some books, I saw a huge group of pirated movies/games/music/whatever vendors selling to a small group of cops. They're not the usual traffic cops. They were like the super special incognito kinda cops, without the incognito part (Huge vans and logos on the shirts/vests.)

Ever seen this before? These guys should get fired, its ridiculous. I stopped buying games here altogether after something happened...only in the US...

These kinds of things are pretty common in Latin America, aren't they? I see them whenever I go to Mexico. And I'm sure the cops aren't anybody to care.

Well its more common here in Asia. Like in Malaysia, almost everywhere i go i can see pirated goods. Whether it is a pirated CD, pirated handbags, pirated softwares, etc. I mean the cops could not stop these vendors, there is too many of them. Some cops just get along and treat it is a normal thing. I even buy some pirated CD's myself :indiff: . Can't help it, i mean we don't get to live in luxury like in the U.S.

Are you sure they were buying pirated stuff?
They could be apprehending stuff.
For example, here in Portugal, normally, when the Cops see Illegal Material or someone selling things without license, they apprehend all the material. I am not saying it is always like this, sometimes they "close they’re eyes".
So, are you sure they were not apprehending or confiscate material???

Well i said some, but not all! (well, maybe a few...:guilty:) If they were buying it, they might be off duty or something. But all i know these pirated vendors would usually run off or hide their products if the cops comes and check. I mean they had walkie-talkies with them and constantly keep a look out for them cops. Very high tech stuff! 👍

It doesn't surprise me, I'm sure that happens over here too. Pirated stuff are so common in Brazil some people don't even realize it's illegal.

Well, I was not exactly replying to you, but you came up with something interesting:

If they were buying it, they might be off duty or something.

Well, if the cops were in duty, it is less like that they were buying illegal stuff. That would grab to much attention.
So:

I think they were confiscating the material. The huge vans would be to put the material in.

Do you know what is sad about this? I mean they confiscate the pirated goods, and they like destroy it and put those pirated vendors in jail, but the cops will keep some of those pirated goods to themselves and even distribute it somewhere else. This corrupted cops really make me sick!!! :yuck: But i don't understand why these "rogue" cops really exist. I mean there suppose to protect, not the opposite! :grumpy:

Does it count as "confiscating" if there's money exchange and laughs?

That is soooooooooooooo true. 2 years ago there was an article about that I SWEAR. Cops confiscated 20 million pesos worth of pirated movies, and only 10-20% was destroyed.

Maybe these dirty cops wouldn't be in this kind of "business" if they hadn't those also-dirty-customers (you too) buying this illegal material from them.
