We have all been doing tons of hours of tire degradation testing, but what about actual pit strategy?

I used to try to stay out as long as possible to cut my pit stops down hoping to save 30 - 40 pit delta seconds of my total race time. But now I've been pitting when my tires are at the point where I'm no longer maintaining a certain lap time, and pitting for fresh rubber. I've noticed that I'm still coming around some of the people who where on a less pit stop strategy. Has anybody else noticed anything like this too, or even something else about pitting that they would like to share?

takes 33 secs to pit, same if you take 12 liters, 15 liters is 34 secs. 25 liters I believe is 42 secs, I have it written down up to a full tank and how long it takes, this is for NASCAR at Daytona. Assuming thats what you were referring too.

If he's talking NASCAR, it seems odd, since lap times don't really drop until you're spinning. Moreso, the total laps of the race dictate when to pit. Outside of NASCAR, there are just too many variables to have a definitive answer, without testing it yourself. Are we talking a single tire grade, or all 3 possibilities of Race tires? Each track has a different pit length too, which also comes into play. More often than not, I prefer to drive the $#!+ out of the car on softs and force people to either out run you, or out strategize you.

Adrenaline does make a good point. Master Gamer has done some work on one race which is valid but only to the one race. The main factors are tire degradation, Pit lane time, and Race Length. I'm sure there is a formula out there for this or it would be hard to figure one out, but the idea is to reduce your total race time or increase your average speed. Increasing average speed is the reason Audi went diesel to reduce fuel stops.

Yea I paid attention to the fact that if you put anything more than 12 liters, it cost you in the pits. I just finally tried a FGT @ Monza |40 Laps, and this car drinks gas just like my GT1 spec Z06. Those types of chassis add a twist to the pit strategies too.
