Pit strategies as employed by the AI

okay,

try this for yourself...i ran the Elise Trophy in pro mode and ran slicks on the Rome II stage and did the ten laps without pitting....none of the AI cars pitted...okay great...

i changed my tyres to medium-soft and pitted after lap 5. the AI cars went past me but i sacraficed a pit for better handling and i caught them up only for the two AI MS Elise's to pit on the 9th lap...

although pitting on the 9th lap is a dubious tactic, i didnt realise the AI changed it strategy to suit your tyre chioce....

and also, while i am on a roll....dont you just hate it when your racing a tough race like this, your on the 7th lap and the AI cars hit you and spin you backwards.....so you start chasing them down again, fast as you can cutting every corner taking it to the max....your just about to catch the up and over take them when the bastards pit in!!!!...

i have just burst a bollock trying to catch you and you bloody pit in on the 9th lap.....!!!

sure, i won the race but where's the glory?....where's the glory i ask??
 
ROTFLMAO, that last part was hilarious, for one reason and one only, ITS SO DAMN TRUE!, btw great discoverie! never knew that.
 
GT4 should have this problem fixed. *hopefully;) *
 
yea i hate that makes it seem so unreallistic........
 
Another great one is in the Formula GT series. You can't use the AI's pit strategy because it's impossible. If you follow the fastest car and pit when he does you'll end up with blood red tires on an undrivable car while that damn F094 just halls ass around turns like it's on rails. Impossible, especially when I followed him and I saw his tires smoke in every corner. I saw him slide into the gravel over and over. I did none of these things.
 
Formula GT...Apricot Hill. Final pit stop, and the F094/S that was my only competition and may have had about a 5 second lead pulls into the pit stall behind mine...and can't get out! He was stuck until I left. This probably made the difference in the race.

That happened to me on every pit stop on Rome. Weird.

Last night I did Apricot Hill and Tokyo with no problems. I was pitting right with the F094 and won both by around seven seconds. I really ought to do a write-up one of these days.

Can't wait to see how Cote goes.
 
You'll probably be able to run about the same speed as the F094/S, except that he'll pit every 10 laps or so to your 7. At least that's how it went for the first 35 laps of my attempt, before I quit.
 
Just thought I'd mention I beat Cote by 57 seconds. My next challenge: beat the series in an R390.

What F1 did you use, and was it on old oil or a fresh change? What driving/pit strategy?

It was the F090 with old oil since I did it last in the series. I'd say it was a combination of driving and pit strategy. Driving because Cote is one of my better tracks. I pitted on laps 11, 22, 33, 44, 54, 64, and 71. I was getting one more lap than the F094, until lap 54 where I didn't have to try as hard and cut it back one lap between pits.
