Planning a Trip to Nurburgring Nordschleife, need advice..

I am from India and I & my family are going on a vacation to Europe. This isnt the first time we're doing this. But this time I am also planning a trip to Nurburgring via Basel, Switzerland.

Now my fixation for going to Nurburgring (once in my lifetime atleast), started off after doing millions of laps in GT4 (first) then few more millions in Forza and PGR series. Since then I had decided that, the next time I goto Europe I'll include The Nordschleife in my Itinerary.

I do not merely wanna go there. Thats why I am here. First off, I'll be renting a Van (as we are 7 of us, including my brother's 3 year old daughter). And I don't intend to drive around the ring in that Van. So if anybody has any idea / clue (or experiences) about the Ring, please share..

I'd like to know if the Ring is open for general people on everyday? Can I take any car around? Is there a Rent a Car service (like for egs, the Ring Taxi, but something that I can drive myself)? What are the procedures, for a ride in the Ring Taxi? etc. etc..

Also, what about Hotels around Nurburg? I am sure there'd be some good hotels close by, as there's an F1 track there..

I'll post this around other forums too and if I get any definitive reply, I'll share it here..

There's a place in nearby Holland which does driver tuition in Alfa 75 3.0L V6s that comes highly recommended. Also, BMW do driver training there, try them.

Zakspeed do the same thing, in a variety of exotica - at a price.

Try getting evo magazine to send you an August 2005 back issue - it has a good guide to the 'Ring in there.
