play 720p on my monitor(pc)?

ok. i heard that x360 will have a vga cable, so i thought "screw buying an hdtv for 400$, ill just use the vga cable on my monitor and play in 4:3 mode." so i was wondering if i could do this and if i could hook the x360 up to my PC speakers instead of paying way too much money. does anybody know if i can do this? any information would be appreciated.
 
I would recommend against it, since the p.c. monitor's fps rate is much slower than the average hdtv. Also, 17" is hardly enough to truly experience the graphics.

You're joking, right? HDTV's are still limited to the same 60fps that normal TV's are. With the bonus of being able to do it progressively.

PC monitor's can support much higher than that. My old Samsung 17" here can support up to 85fps. Newer, high-performance monitors can do over 120. I've yet to see an HDTV that can do that.

Because of that, the monitor will display whatever it's told to display. If the Xbox says "play at 60fps", then the monitor will play it at 60fps.

You're right about the size, though.. the bigger the screen, the better. I'd rather play games low-res on my 27" TV downstairs than "hi-res" on my little 17" monitor.

I totally second this.
I have a 19" monitor that I play GTR on and wish I could play it on my 55" HDTV which is only a dozen feet away. The horror!!
 
but blackz28, you have an hdtv while i don't and the TV i have doesn't even have s-video on it. and just looking at pgr3 with all the high res stuff. well i will have to test if it's worth the smaller screen. but do you know if i could hook those PC speakers up to the x360?
