The PlayStation Beta Rooms.

SCE UK and the EN PlayStation Community Team are teaming up to bring you a super-special gaming event for all you hardcore gamers out there. Its name?

From Friday 30th July - Sunday 1st August, we're turning a secret Central Birmingham venue into a gamer's paradise. Check out this blurb from SCE UK:

“PlayStation BETA is our access all areas community for gamers. It’s an opportunity for us to reward you guys with trials of titles way ahead of release, invitations to exclusive content and an array of prizes to further enhance your gaming experience.

We’re inviting you to come and prove yourself on games before they’re released, battle it out with the best of the best, win awesome prizes, and speak face to face with your gaming heroes. While other people can only talk about future games, you can be launching yourself into them for real at our first ever BETA event in Birmingham.

So what kind of crumbling apocalyptic cities can you race through and what kind of power struggles can you get caught up in? For a taster of what’s about to be unleashed on the market, you can sample all of these at the event: Killzone 3, GT5, MotorStorm Apocalypse, LBP2, The Fight, Kung Fu Rider, Sports Champions, Heavy Rain Move Edition and many more.

We’ll even stage a MotorStorm Apocalypse tournament. The prize? The champion of each session not only escapes a natural catastrophe but also wins a Sony 3DTV. And if you can’t dodge enough flying concrete to claim a prize, don’t curl up in shame as there are limited edition take homes for everyone. And there’s free food and drink throughout, to fuel your shooting/racing/zombie addiction.

So if you want to thrust yourself into games no one else can get their hands on at the BETA event in Birmingham, sign up now"

You're itching already, right?

The event is open to UK residents. To secure a place for you and a friend, send us an email on betarooms@scee.net before Monday 26th July along with your preferred date. You can choose from the following sessions:

Saturday 31st July: 6pm- 10pm

Sunday 1st August: 12pm- 4pm

Places are offered on a first-come, first served basis so don't hang about. Don’t worry, we’ll be confirming venue details nearer the time but if you want to check out travel information, it’s within a mile of Birmingham New Street station.

There's supposed to be something similar tonight in New York. I guess the steady stream of details is about to begin. NY tonight, UK next week, GamesCom a couple weeks later, TGS in September, an event in October...lots of opportunities for new details to be revealed.

Maybe they will show as New York circuit tonight:idea:

Sure hope someone here who is a UK resident ( I'll nominate you EvilNeal ) is able to go to that Custard Factory ( sounds a bit like Charlie and the chocolate factory........;)) and report it back here as I'm not a UK resident nor planning to go to NY soon.
Is this a Beta version of the full game or just another Demo again?

The one in NY is media only otherwise I would already be in the city with my camcorder, ready to report back. Any GTP'ers in England... ASSEMBLE!

The custard factory is nothing, we've got jam butty mines in Liverpool!

I'm guessing that it'll be demos as it says "For a taster of what’s about to be unleashed on the market", maybe some of the games will be the full titles but I wouldn't get my hopes up for GT5.

Alas I can't get to Birmingham that weekend, busy on the Saturday and going to see In The Night Garden Live on the Sunday Google it! I'm hoping that posting it here will mean other GTPers will be able to make it and report back but it is a media day there on the Friday so some details may still come out in the gaming press.

Don't ask me why but I've actually seen that show on the telly once ( seems like a more sophisticated TeleTubbies if I'm not misstaken ).
I do hope you have a credible reason to go there ( I'm guessing a family trip ) because if you admitted you'd go to see it purely for your own amusement I'd have a hard time taking you serious anymore....;)

It's probably just another demo, if not the same as E3 but hopefully with another track and more cars. Maybe some standard cars so we can really see the differences and not speculate anymore.

The custard factory BTW is just a trendy arts and crafts place that doubles as a conference venue. It used to be a factory and it was first owned and built by the guy the invented custard.

I won't be there even though I could get there easy enough, I simply can't commit the time at the moment. If Ashley makes it and reports back that'd be great. No pressure Ashers.

Well I have sent my email so hopefully I get a place, fingers crossed. Its a bit of a hike (5 and a half hours) but its so very worth it.

E-mail sent. Hope I get to go. Last train from Birmingham New Street back to where I live is 22:05, so timing would be pretty good.

I'd love to go but I can't make it that weekend. It's a shame because I live near Birmingham. I wonder if it's the full game or just a demo.

I've applied for the Sunday, hopefully a fair few GTP'ers end up there. 👍 Just going to train it.

I've applied for Sunday as well. I'm doing summer school at LSE so it's a relatively short train ride from central London straight there.

Hopefully, they will have the Nurburgring playable; I plan on taking my first trip there after the summer session.

Will take plenty of pictures and video.

Chris

I booked, but I'm not even too sure if I can, still if I get to go and someone else doesn't here then I will just give them the invite. If that's at all possible.

I really, really wanna see cockpit-view rollover.

But that's only if it's updated with new damage.

Iv applied for sunday.. fingers crossed :D if i go youll know its me as i have a T-shirt saying Team RaceworX on it :sly:

have to teach the GF to hold my camera :dopey:

If you haven't got kids I won't definitely won't ask  (yes, in fact I think it's made by the same people). It's my 2 1/2 year old sons bedtime TV programme so he'll probably go ape when we get there and it's in the park 5 mins from my house so couldn't not go. I'm still looking forward to it though so I guess you should probably take me a bit less seriously ;)

The PlayStation Beta event says if you get an invite it'll be for you and a friend so if there are any GTPers who don't have plans to take anyone they could ask here if any other members want to go with them.

Well, I can't go. Birthday shenanigans. :grumpy:

Whoever is deemed so lucky enough to get to go, don't forget to ask questions! Practice on the booth babes (where present), if you "have" to.

Good luck getting places, people! Be nice to hear some impressions from real GTers for once.

Ok i really need to know something. Is this a time limited version of the full game or just a demo because people have been saying something about a full game being shown after this info came out.

Guys if it turns out to be the E3 demo and video recording is permitted then can some of you try to get us more workings of the "Head Tracking" in action. Would love to go, but instead of moaning about another beta Im damn well glad for those of you that can attend and get to savour some of the excitment.

I hope they have those PS3 bolted to the floor as one is likely to go missing, lol.

How many "beta" versions have you actually played though?
Bit of a moot question that, totally irrelevant. I have no intention of traveling anywhere just to play a game in beta form. Any experience of it will therefore be in video format, where I have seen plenty already. Playing the game there is not going to make it come out any faster.

Ah, Mr Latte, I see you are still up to your usual pathetic trick of following my posts and countering them with sly digs like "instead of moaning about another beta..." Far be it for you to say anything negative at all about something or all allow people to have their own opinions of a given situation that you disagree with. Grow up.
