Anyone play any of the GTA IV titles recently? I threw it in last week and noticed the graphics look much worse than I recall. Everything looks blurry and without as much detail. Just wondering if I'm missing something.

EDIT - GTA V still looks great by the way.

The resolution and detail of GTA IV is very horrid. I thought it was good until GTA V came around and I was totally amazed by the resolution and detail.

I only play GTA4 now because of LCPDFR. And stuff like this:

I've never played it myself, but guys, of COURSE it's going to look sub-par after all this time. It's more than 5 years old, after all.

It looked sub par for its own time. Let alone now. There was little to no draw distance in that game at all.

Yeah, that is true... I did hear it was disappointing, but I still think the fact that it doesn't seem that old might affect some people's perception of it.

Most everything about GTA4 was horrid. One of the largest disappointments in gaming IMO. Thankfully Rockstar redeemed themselves with GTA5. Incredible game.
I hugely disagree with this. I think Grand Theft Auto IV was a great game. Sure, it wasn't like it's older ones or even GTA V with it's more... "not-so-realistic fun" for lack of better words, but I think it's a great game because it was different. The story was easily more heartfelt, and I felt for Niko as he said goodbye to his mother and a lot of his friends during the game, either by them dying or something else. I mean, both Brucie and Packie are in GTA V, so that's two friends lost there evidently.
Unless you have no emotions whatsoever, you felt for Niko and Roman's struggles - the game was more dark, which makes for a great emotional story.
Also, saying GTA IV looks bad to GTA V graphic wise is just silly, because of course GTA V was going to have better graphics. GTA IV came out in April of 2008.

So yes, I have played GTA IV recently, because I find it a fantastic game with a great story. It doesn't have nearly the amount of features that GTA V has, but for me, the point of games it to have fun, and basing 'fun' on the graphics/physics of a game is just silly to me.

Well said Pink.
Personally I don't bother with IV anymore thanks to idiot hackers.

All of this talk about hackers in GTA IV is making me curious.

I also felt GTA IV was quite unspectacular. There was no replay value in the game for me, cop chases were too easy and therefore dull, and there really wasn't much to do in the game like there was in San Andreas. I think GTA games need to enable the player to engage in over-the-top stunts, police chases, shootouts and generally cause anarchy. I can appreciate the more gritty, realistic approach they took to designing the game, but I didn't like it. They went towards the more traditional route with the flashier TBOGT, but it wasn't a substitute for a full game.

Although I dislike some elements of GTA5 I think it has everything GTA IV lacked, and I appreciate that Rockstar addressed this before it became a habit.

I was just wondering what everyone thought. To me, small details seem to be lacking. Roads have less detail and cars have a lot more jagged edges. I thought maybe the game was downgraded once GTV came out. That, or maybe not as much attention is spent to keep the game up to standard.

I'm kind of new to the online world of gaming and thought maybe this was standard practice when newer titles are released. That, or it's all in my head. :dunce:

I've thought about going back to GTA IV and doing the storyline again, one which I've completed multiple times. I actually prefer GTA IV's online to GTA V, due to the fact that I could just turn the traffic off and drive around with my friends, having fun. And those free roam shoot outs at the airport!
