Playability/Understanding for Americans (who can't read Japanese)?

OK...I did search...and found many threads on the subject of how it plays, etc...but I could not find a simple answer to one question with regards to the Japanese version of GT4 I just bought.

I have seen plenty of translation screens for the menus, and even have a masterful understanding of how the GT series play in terms of game play (from previous American versions)...

How easy is it to understand all there is to be had with the Japanese version for someone who doesn't know a lick of any language that's not English? I am a little concerned about some of the game screens I have seen of the new game modes and I am wondering how easy it will be to figure out what to do since I only speak/read English.

Any help with regards to this specific topic would be much appreciated.

I thought this thread would be about the savegame compatibility. Will the NTSC-J savegame be compatible with the NTSC game?
 
I was back in the GT4 index, and I saw the little mail icon next to this thread, and I was like: "What? I never subscribed to that thread."
 
I'm sure you'll be fine with the translation screens for the menus that you see around here. They should look the same.

Go play the damn thing.
 
Would love to Diabolical - but am waiting for my PS2 to return with the ability to play the copy sitting on my desk.

In the meantime, I am relegated to research my questions among the quagmire of threads - leaving only the one question I have asked to pacify my pre-game curiousity.
 
You can always send me your copy in the meantime... :D

Seriously, I'm sure you'll do fine, especially if you know how the GT series works.
 
great. thanks...as for sending the copy - I appreciate the offer to rip it open and relish the puff of air that comes from the initial opening of a new game - espcially an import - but I will have to hold on to this one for now...PS2 is coming home this week.
 
Maskrider's translations are a great start...the reason for my question was more from a comfort level for people comfortable with the GT series. Since my question is answered - this can be closed.
