Still hemming and hawing over a seat purchase!

Anyone with a Playseat Evolution - do you recommend the seat slider kit, or is there enough adjustment elsewhere on the rig that you do not need the seat to slide?

Almost ready to 'click' the purchase button!:scared:

I was wondering the same exact thing so I researched a little more. I recently purchased evo with black one as well. According to many reviewers, seat sliders just extend the limit of pushing back and front a little more. I am 6'3, I haven't got my evo through shipping yet but I don't think it is necessary to buy one. If you and your little child are planning to play it, you should buy it for your child because that way the child can reach on the pedals. Unless you are 7 feet, the seat slider is not needed. The distance between seat and the handle is still adjustable up to 6'4 I heard from YouTube review. Well I'm excited to get my playseat! I only ordered gear holder for extra option.

I got my playseat with a few of the options and ended up getting the slider thrown in for free. I never fitted it though and the seat works perfectly fine without it. Maybe if I was more disproportionate or really short or tall then the slider may be needed but I'd say in 99% of cases you can go without it.

If there is going to be 2, or more, folk of differing heights using it, then you need the slider. The seat is adjustable in other areas, but it is not designed to be adjusted in these parts constantly.

I don't have the slider, but then I'm the only one using my seat.

I am going to Daan!

Donald Sutherland is great in Kelly's Heroes, great pic!

I'll pass on the seat slider though.

Race ya later!

You wont really need it! The adjustments are good enough:)!

It is very adjustable, probably more so then any other setup made. I really can't see any need for the slider. If I was you I would just get the seat, and if you think you might want the slider after trying the playseat you could order it later.

I agree with the last 2 comments. I have a playseat evo, there's 3 adjustable knobs. 1 for the seat itself (back and forward), 1 for the steering column (back and forward) and another one on the steering column itself for wheel position (up and down).

Looks like you've already ordered it though so i've posted this just so others thinking about buying one have another user's opinion.

My advice: If you can afford it, buy it*. I've had mine 2 months now and it really does enhance the driving experience. Plus, it's very comfortable to sit in for long periods.

*My one beef with the thing is this: The vertical bar holding the steering column does get in the way a bit if you want to do right foot braking.

edit: I haven't mentioned the slider. Durr! I haven't got one. seems a bit silly me posting now. Oh, well... :dopey:

Before I sold my Playseat just before xmas I had the seat slider fitted to mine and personally I thought it was a bit of a gimmick as I used to slide the base of the frame to whatever position I needed when my 7 year old played it and in fact, very rarely used the seat slider itself!
I used a bit of Dymo tape stuck to the frame so that I knew what position to slide it back to once he'd been playing. Made life a lot easier...

Good luck 👍

I'd say the seat will accomodate people up to 6'6" better than my old '04 Civic  I'm 6'4" and there's still room to slide it out a bit 👍 This seat great.

This is my first post, I've just received a Playsteat Evolution from my GF for my birthday... stoked!

I also got the Seat Sliders and the Gearstick attachment... BONUS!

The instructions for the playseat were relatively good... except they didn't include steps or insertion points for the Gearstick or the seat slider.

This meant that after putting together the Playseat, I had to take it all apart again to attach the gearstick. Then I had to take it all apart again to attach the seat slider when I found some instrcutions (pathetically Playseat don't appear to provide any... I couldn't even find them on the Playseat site).

These Instructions are courtesy of R. E. Miller (posted on another site).
It hought I'd post a modified version here for any one that comes accross this post (like I did).

IMPORTANT: Do this before you attach the base to the seat!

Seat Slider installation Instructions for Playseat Evolution
Credit to R. E. Miller.

1) remove the 4x Allen screws holding the seat to the base

2) push a type '1' Allen screw into the open end of the slider & through the elongated hole nearest the sticker end (front) so the thread is outside the slider and the head is on the inside.

3) screw into the front seat hole with the sticker side down and facing to the front, screw in the remaining screws / slider

4) The release bar is held in place by its own spring tension so all you have to do is line up a hole near the bar end to the single pin shaped metal tab and then compress it enough to fit the other hole over the tab on the other side. Make sure you attach the release bar such that the bend tips away from the seat bottom.

NOTE: Be CAREFUL!
It is very "springy", so try not to let it pinch your fingers!!! The bar should now be resting firmly between the double tabs and the single tabs through the holes.

TIP:
I used a small phillips head screw driver through the end of the tube to give extra leverage and avoid fingers being pinched.

5) Before trying to attach the seat to the base see if you can use the release and move the slider rail forward a few inches, thus exposing the two front elongated holes. This may take 2 persons if it is a tight fit, but mine moved rather easily. Try to get both rails extended the same distance to expose the elongated screw holes.

TIP:
Beware of the grease on the rails.

7) With the holes exposed you should be able to easily place the seat onto the base and drop an allen screw in each side. Place a nut on the bottom and tighten.

8) Now carefully slide the seat forward enough to expose the back 2 elongated screw holes and repeat the process.

9) I suggest moving the seat back to the center position (no rail sticking out either forward or back) and fit the Playseat to your body by moving the Playseat's original adjustment (the main tube tightener) into your comfortable "playing" position. That way if other people will be using it, they can use the slide more easily to fit it to their body size.

Hope it helps.
Big thanks top R. E. Miller for his/her posting.

noticed that obutto raised their price from $289 to $329 in july and oh, look at that- playseats are now $329 on amazon as well!

its frustrating to see a price fluctuate so much in just a year (playseats being $200 earlier last year).

I bought mine with the slider and immediately found use for it. My girlfriend and I both race and I'm 6'3" and seh's 5'8". We also host lots of parties and I thus lot sof different size humans sit in that seat. The slider makes this much faster.

I bought the seat slider with mine. I'm the only one that uses it and I'm around 5' 6". I just found it much easier to get in and out of being able to slide it back when I am finished racing.
Also makes it handy when someone else comes over of a different height and wants to give it a try.

For me it was worth the extra money just for the ease and convenience of being able to slide it back when I need to get out of it.
