SOURCES SAID that the Sony Playstation3 is to be realesed September 26th 2007.
A reliable source close to Sony's plans explained the way the Playstation3 works to the INQUIRER.

He said that the computers are made of cells, each one containing a CPU, which will probably be a PowerPC, and eight APUs (vectorial processors) each with 128K of memory.

It will run at 4GHz, producing a not inconsiderable 256Gflops, with the cells connected to the central 64MB memory through a switched 1024 bit bus.

It's still not clear how many of these "cells" will be used in the Playstation3, but Sony reckoned some time ago it could be as many as one teraflop, probably making it a four cell architecture.

Optical links – perhaps even FireWire optical links – could be used to share computing power.

The Playstation3 architecture is similar to the Playstation 2 but with some improvements, such as a larger number of VPUs, each with more memory. The operating system, too, is much improved.

But Playstations will still be very complex to program well, although it's just as well that Sony doesn't want to take the Microsoft DirectX route.

This is a diagram of the system which is filed in the US Patents and Trademarks Office, and snapped from there, with acknowledgements:

And here

Here it is the sony ps3 p.s There was a mysterious auction on EBAY recently with a starting bid of around $10,000 for a fricken ps3 and there were a few bidders too! But $10,000 american was for the prototype but the real ps3 will be around $899,99! But I'm gonna get it anyways though!!
PS3 sounds too good to be true! It is about 110 times faster then a computer of today. 1 GHZ is 1000 MHZ!!

Haha!! PS2 Is only 3 hundred and something MHZ!

That image is computer generated - I'm very dubious.

Re the release date - the latest rumour is that Sony have started circulating specs amongst developers for the games available at release. Given the two year lead time for games this would imply a launch for Christmas 2005 - I can't see them carrying the curent system for another 4 years. You just need to look at the difference in GTA VC to see the differences between current spec PC and PS2.

I think your first post (apart from the release date) is more credible than your second.

How could they have a prototype for sale if the specs arent even finalized yet. Besides companies don't sell their prototypes, they put them in the company museum. (exept for Ford which needed the money)

I couldn't agree with you more.

To add more, there are rumors that the original manufacturer of the PS2 parts has begun retooling their plants for the new PS3.

Other rumors have come from E3 that Sony had given out development kits for the PS3 to at least three game developers and that more were on the way.

On the PD front, they have already started with the construction of a game engine design for GT5 which will most likely be available as a launch title for the new system. With the new code in place I am sure they started making the new GT5 vehicles. I would like to know how many polygons there will be this time.:D

Oops, I forgot to add that the "FireWire" digital interface connection was something Sony called I-link. It was completely dropped for DVI which also was completely dropped for USB2.

Do you know if they used ultra high res poly models and then scaled them down for GT3 or GT4, because if they did that then for GT5 they could just scale the poly model down less than in the previous games and easily include cars from previous games without having to redo the model.

i aint gonna buy a ps3 until they stop makin ps2 games i did that with the psx to ps2 and i got it for about 300 with 2 controller and gt3... good deal eh i think 289.99 was exact

thats a good deal depending on what currency your talking about

I was reading an article on Sony's cell technology, in development with Toshiba or some other company like that. Anyhow, they were speculating the power of the cell technology being able to share resources between multiple devices hooked up into the same network. So consider your home..., microwaves, fridges, TV's, DVD Players, PS3's, ect...., ect.... all sharing resources. It could be pretty increadable.

so i can play GT5 while raiding the fridge?:)

No, what it means is that when someone cooks their microwave dinner, and orders groceries online from their fridge, your GT5 game will start to lag in Frame Rates... :D

i understand the concept i was just joking
so it will be like "Mum i think we need a new microwave the PS3's lagging........while your at it buy another fridge and toaster":)

I also understand the concept and was joking with you. ;)

Yes, I think it would be like:

:D

Weren't they talking about doing this 'integrated household' stuff with the PS2?

I hadn't heard that..., it could use a little extra boost to help with loading time, and framerates though. ;)

Why was this thread revived in the first place? It is over a year old, and is now completely pointless.
Because the gentleman did exactly what everybody yells at people to do, and searched until he found an article on PS3, and added his new information to it. So don't yell at him for doing that, now. As to why it's in the GT4 section, you'd have to ask the original poster, but it's not going to stay here for long.

it's because there's no news directly related to GT4... all that can be disccused about GT4 has been discussed in excruciating detail.
So people want to just say sth ... anything remotely related to GT series... :indiff:

Frankly, talking about upcoming products is a waste of time. They're going to work at their own pace, fanatics will create information, fans will blow it out of proportion, and the general public will be left mad at the developer for not meeting a deadline that they never claimed.

That would make an excellent sig.

Anyway, the news on the Blu-Ray is rather old.Like, a year old. Some say it can hold 50GB,others say 30GB and ther's even mention of 200GB.

But I am sure I was only in the last week looking at information concerning the specifications and technology in the PS3. Now this might have been in threads originally started for a different purpose, but are now very much part of the topic.

[EDIT]WHen I searched 'PS2 blue ray' I found this thread https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=49282&page=1&highlight=PS3+blue+ray . Very much more up to date concerning the PS3 that this thread. But I'm wondering if GrF.:satan-san: searched PS3 release instead.

Sony delaying the PS 3? That's more like Nintendo's style, and they've been flopping ever since the delay of the N64 followed up by the dissapointing Gamecube.
