PlayStation 3; is it worth the money?

slim ps3 will never brake, you could leave it on non stop for a month and it won't overheat or break.!

That's highly doubtful. This reminds me of the rumor that Sony was going to disable the Emotion Engine after the new models without PS2 playback were launched.

They did it with Other OS! (which like this was also because of a security issue) but I'm also starting to think that they probably wouldn't do it this time to existing consoles, I think they have learnt their lesson and dont want another fiasco!

Sony are no longer supporting this functionality mainly because pirates are using it to rip Blu Rays, its an analogue output with no copy protection.
 
Thanks SO much everyone for the help, but I'm getting a PS2. If only the PS3 phatty plays PS2 games, and they are they ones with all of the problems, then I'll just wait and get a slim PS3, so I'll have a PS2 & 3.
 
you should be able to find a used slim for a reasonable price if you dont want to buy a new one. There not 600 bucks anymore which is a plus, and there is quite a few big games about to be released in a couple months.

Skyrim, Ace Combat (its big for me), Deus Ex, and i heard they are going to remake some older MGS games and peace walker to ps3 standards.
