The same guy who did the 360 and Wii Laptops has done a PS3 one.

Personally I think it looks horrible, I could do a way better job than that! Its got no style whatsoever and looks nothing like the original systems beautiful design or anything that Sony would produce for that matter, plus it looks badly made..

But yeah I guess its just to prove it can be done in a smaller package and I could see it being rather fun sitting at the airport playing on it! Sadly not cordless because you would probably need a car battery!

Apparently its being auctioned off but anyway here are the pics...

Rewind back to late 2006. The PS3 was launching alongside the Wii and geeky editors like ourselves were having a field day. We'd already managed to convince our good pal Ben Heck to build another Xbox 360 laptop and the Wii Laptop, so it was only a matter of time before we started brainstorming on how the hell we could possibly fit a PS3 into a "portable" enclosure. That's the part where Ben stepped up his game and worked his magic -- on and off for almost a year and a half -- to build... the PS3 Laptop!

The essential specs:

* Original backwards compatible 60GB model
* 17-inch LCD HDTV screen: 720p
* HDMI-DVI connection (same as last Xbox 360 laptop)
* Built-in keyboard, USB ports, stereo speakers, headphone jack
* Size: 17 x 13.75 x 3-inches
* Weight: 16 pounds!

You want this one of a kind piece of kit for your very own, PlayStation fanboys? You got it. We're auctioning this thing for charity real soon, so watch out for details (we'll also have some video of the PS3 Laptop in action on the site tomorrow). And, naturally, big ups to our pal Ben Heck for the long hours and love he put into this thing. The man is truly a hero of ours, so be sure to hit up his site to check out his other projects, as well as the other instructional stuff he's done here on Engadget.

What do you think? Would you make / buy something like that?

Wow. Just WOW. Who would be insane enough to try that...and get it done? IMO very well done... how much is it?

Well, compared to one of my laptops, that's a lightweight!

From,
Chris.

That is incredible.

I can't imagine the amount of work to get that done. Can it still be hooked up to an HDTV, or does it just use the screen attached?

;)

I would rather not ask..... :indiff: The XBOX360 version looks way better than this. I would rather have a PS Three and a small screen!!!!!! (plus, at least it doesn't weigh 16 pounds.... :eek:)

Sure it looks like a Wii+PS3, but give it some time and you'll see something beautiful...... :D

I have to agree with ya that the 360 version looks way better than the PS3 & Wii version. I know he's a 360 fanboy and all but I think he could've done a better job.

Smart arse...lol. Well it's impressive, but with that weight it's still hardly "portable", just slightly smaller.

And have a built in screen....

Love it - And very nicely executed !...

I must agree that the Xbox 360 one that he did was much nicer looking. It just looked cleaner.

Two answer your question, it's being auctioned off for US$8,000 IIRC.

Psh I would have that that it would garner more than that. I mean he had been working on this thing for like a year right?

It's cool but not $8000 cool. You could get one heck of a laptop for a fraction of that price. I'm pretty amazed with what this guy can do though after looking at his site.

Agreed. It would be cool if he gave the money to charity. $8000 is still $8000.

The money is going to charity, I think something having to do with Cancer
