Playstation eating DVD's.

Hello,

I hope this is the right forum for posting Playstation 2 hardware issues.

However, I have some troubles with my Playstation 2, I use it for playing DVD movies but I ran into a annoying problem: My PS2 kills DVD's. Dont ask me how, its like that: I insert a DVD into my PS2 and run it, after a minute or so the film starts to stutter, after about five minutes of playing the DVD everything turned into a slideshow. I get the DVD out of the Playstation and throw it int my computer and guess what? The same problem, the Playstation turned a perfectly working DVD into scrap.

DVD's turned into scrap:

Saving Private Ryan
Saving Private Ryan #2
Alien: Resurrection
Alien 1

And no, the desroyed DVD's do not show any scratches and are in perfect condition, they just dont not work anymore. The laser is low enough to not hit the DVD, the DVD spins flawlessy.

So what the hell?:dunce:

Seriously - I've heard of XboX'es destroying discs due to misaligned lasers - never a PS2...
 
I use a separate DVD player to watch movies, since I want my fat PS2 to last. But I have never heard of this problem.
 
My old, first build run, PS2 did the same thing. I had to end up going in an realigning the laser which was a royal pain in the behind since my understanding of computer components is quite low. Here is a website that explains how to do it but unless you are good with electronics I would ask for some help from someone who does just to be safe. If you attempt to do this heed the warnings to, they are important.
