Hi all, just wondering if the head tracking functionality of the PS-Eye has become any more useable in GT5 since I last a checked.. (at which point it only worked in arcade mode & not very well to boot :() My apologies if this has been covered recently.. I searched & as usual, found nothing - feel free to point me in the right direction if you've got links etc. As always, thanks in advance! 👍

Shame my rig is setup to use the PS Eye...

Well that's pretty frikkin lame. As a long-time Track-IR user in various PC games, I've no doubt whatever problems there are could be worked out & that when implemented correctly the feature adds an immersion factor like no other. Given so many games rely directly on the PS-Eye to function at all/how well it seems to be able to track movement, I bet they just haven't put much time into its' use in GT, heh. Heck, the least they could do is give us a look-to-apex function like many PC driving games provide..

Was it not only available in TT mode?
Cant remember but yes it was like many things in GT5 very much a half attempt at doing something.

Just get triple screens..... (you know it makes sense) :)

Would a 60 inch help instead of 3 tv set up for added viewing of looking around the cockpit?

Looking around the cockpit, do you need a wheel and/or the eye?

My ps3 is shot right now and I am getting the 320 gig with the move in a week or so. I am looking on getting a wheel in a couple of months (waiting to see the reviews)

I am wondering because I never really set up my DS3 controller and just used the normal settings.

Thanks

I don't really understand the question.. I mean, of course a wide format TV would be best, but it's not going to give you the ability to see to your left & right/give ya any more viewing area than any other widescreen, no matter how big or small. Also, the guys that do the multi-screen thing, tend to use three widescreens. (I'm not sure the feature's even available via 4:3's)

Also, you can already look around the cockpit by way of the DS3. I believe the commands default to the analog sticks & expect they could be assigned to various other types of controllers. Personally, I prefer using my hands to actually drive. The point of the PS-Eye implementation was so you could do so hands-free, a feature that's been available to PC gamers for quite some time now. Unfortunately it seems PD forgot/can't be asked to make it completely functional. By what I understand, it's only ever worked in time-trial mode & not very well @ that.

If you're buying a PS3 Move & have the game, you should have everything needed to test it out. Also, I'm not sure if ya realize it but for the 3-screen setup, you also need 3 PS3's, haha. GT5's not THAAT good/realistic enough to warrant such an extravagant, space wasting bunch of hardware. I just keep hoping one of these patches will finish what was started/make head-tracking worth the price of an Eye.

And not to forget, you also need 2 extra copies of the GT5-disc... another 120$ to invest in the setup 👍

And not to forget...

I know.. how pathetic right! That said, BR burner's are fairly cheap already & as far as I know, the PS3 has no protection against such? Haven't got to check it out yet as I'm awaiting my next PC overhaul to buy one. Even still, GT5 isn't worth the hassle.

Thanks for the replies. You guys answered all of my questions. I have a 42 inch and basically wanted to know if additional t.v.'s or side by side or a bigger one would give a wider look on the in car feature. I haven't really taken advantage of everything that GT5 has available, just been racing :)

Thanks again!

I had the same question. Bought one a Gamestop. Used it. Found out it is crap, nauseating, strains the eyes and just feels unnatural. So I returned it. And got my money back.

I guess there is no harm in trying this method and maybe finding out you like it.

Head tracking definitely takes some getting used to & in the end, isn't for everybody, though that's not the problem with it in GT5. The issue is that they didn't ever finish implementing the feature. Of course it's much more customizable in the PC realm. I urge anybody who does give it a shot, not to give up too quickly/keep it as long as your particular vendor will allow before returning it. In general, it seems to take peeps about a month to really start getting the hang of it, though once ya do, you'll never wanna go back.. especially in flight-sims!

Correct. It isnt worth it in GT5 at all, but headtracking like TrackIR (I prefer the free one FreeTrack), works awesome in sims on the PC. I only used it for IL2, but man what a neat feature.

Kinect will having headtracking with Forza 4 in the whole game...which should actually make buying Kinect worth it IMO.

Maybe the Kinect/Forza-4 will be just what PD needs to let'm know it's time to finish what they started! (in regards to head tracking anyways ) Don't think I'll go seeking them just for said feature tho. Would rather play LFS and/or go drive a real car!

Hi.

Today I´ve tried again after a long time without using this feature, and I´ve seen now it works in Arcade - Hard difficult.

Does anyone know wich update introduced this improvement?

Thanks.

... I guess it's still non-functional outside of arcade mode though?

I have tried in Practice -> A-Spec One-Make mode and it doesn´t work.

I got a good setup for the PS eye, and works well. The correct level of light over your head is important.

When Polyphony included this feature the narrow and narrower views don´t were, but with these and the PS eye the driving is great.

That's really sad.. no, pathetic. (but thx for the info) I'd drop coin to use it in ONE game, if they'd simply make it work in the most popular portion of (their own) game. Until then I'll likely be doing more driving behind TrackIR. (and crossing my fingers somebody posts here with good news of course!)
