Hi,I've been considering getting Ps Plus.
It's availiable for £29.99 on the eu store until the 9th of January.
I can't quite decide if it's worth it.
I like games like GT5,Rockstar games etc and non of the instant collection games suite my tastes.
I was also wondering what the likelyhood of GTA V being availiable aswell as games like GT5 or perhaps PCars might come to PS Plus.
Any help would be great.

It's generally slightly older games and PSN games, from memory we've had Just Cause 2, Red Dead Redemption, Bioshock 2, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, LBP2, Infamous 2, some Space Marine game or another... It's pretty good value, cloud saving and auto downloads are great features too, but my sub is about to run out and I can't afford to top it up yet (because presents and Steam sale), so I'm going to lose access to all my games until the end of January. If you use your PS3 often I definitely recommend it.

But no, GTA V and pCARS won't be available on
PS+ for at least a year, probably more if they're popular, possibly never. I don't think they've done any Sony games since the Instant Game Collection thing started, could be wrong about that though.

Thanks for your reply,I've alredy got Red dead on disc and first person shooters don't relly appeal to me all that much apart from, say a James Bond game, perhaps 007 reloaded might come to PS Plus.
One other question do you play GT5 because I'll be racing tonight between 6pm and 7pm GMT if you'd like to join.:)

Haven't bought a ps game since a year and still I get free games every month.

For PS3 and PSVita. Awesome! Paid 100€ (2years) and have gotten more than 1000€ in value of games, mini's, ps2, ps1,....

It's worth it. If they keep plus for the ps4, I might not even buy games anymore (exept the few must have)

To me it only seems worth it if you haven't been buying games the past two+ years. I had a months trial last month and didn't see any benefit to it, the games were either ones I weren't interested in or games I'd already bought. I mean Arkham City, who hasn't already bought that if they want it?

Good point, perhaps it's not worth it because most of the PS Plus games are action/FPS etc and I prefer racing games and third person shooters and any game I like I've already got on disc. Thanks for input.:)

That was my exact situation pretty much. I mean whilst I was on the trial it was just FPS shooters like Crisis, 3PS Vanquish that I've no interest in or games like Arkham City or Limbo that I already have.

In fact to give you a better idea, here are the free games I was offered over the course of the trial:

Batman: Arkham City (PS3)
LIMBO (PS3)
Vanquish (PS3)
Big Sky Infinity (PS Vita and PS3)
Mortal Kombat (PS Vita) - not available in AU
Knytt Underground (PS Vita and PS3)
Crysis 2 (PS3)
Scott Pilgrim vs The World (PS3)
Double Dragon Neon (PS3)
Chronovolt (PS Vita)
Tales From Space: Mutant Blobs Attack (PS Vita)
LittleBigPlanet 2 (PS3)
InFamous 2 (PS3)

I may have missed one or two. You also get 1 hour trials of games but with huge downloads just for an hour of gameplay it's not worth it. Discounts also seemed to be pretty thin on the ground.

Yeah those games don't do much for me,maybe LittleBigPlanet 2 but I've already got that on disc too,it seems anything decent I've already got,so I don't think it's worth my while.
I got a 3 month subscription and it ended about a week ago and all I played was Resident evil 5 and Saints Row 2 just to try them out and I didn't really like them.
I think I might just hold out for new GT5 DLC,(if there is any)GTA V and Pcars.

Hey simonk thanks for the reply about AA on Pcars,I can't post this message in the Pcars thread because my PS3 browser keeps crashing.
So does this AA apply to pictures aswell as the game itself?

If you have limited gaming tastes you should consider that the free games are a "perk" not necessarily the main feature. Take away the free games you still get great discounts on content and free DLC thats your's forever.

Cloud storage has been a great new feature as I can have two PS3's and not have to transfer my data over to my second PS3.

Its worth a year's subscription for me..... but its value is solely user defined, can't really ask if its worth it if you don't have much use for it.

I just want to remind you PSN free games are basically for rent they get removed when your membership ends

I've been a member pretty much since I got my PS3, I find generally the good points outweigh the bad ones. If you break down the "cost" per game it's very very cheap, particularly when titles such as Red Dead Redemption appear. There's actually less of the PS1/PS2 games now since they revamped it all recently, but you still get Minis/Indies, which I like but they aren't everyone's cuppa i guess.

The down side for me is that of course there will sometimes be games you already have, but personally I don't buy a lot of new titles anyway, i'm very selective so PS+ kinda covers off games I perhaps wouldn't ordinarily try, with some nice surprises.

That said, there does seem to be a focus on first and third person shooters and sci-fi-themed titles, most of which are good but honestly not "great". I think they should shake up the variety a little, for example they recently had Double Dragon Neon and Scott Pilgrim but really SP is just a rehash of games like DD with modern, cartoony characters. I tried one after the other and they were fun but very similar.

Another thing that bugs me a little is the amount of errors they seem to make, for example where they forget to provide an unlock or make it clear how to find it, so you think you are stuck with the trial version. Other titles they forget to mark as free, for example I realised I hadn't checked for new titles recently so went to the PS Store and saw they were giving away Crysis 2, but it was full price. They took it down so I thought they were fixing it but no, it was gone. It was only up for a month whereas Motorstorm 2 (whatever it's called) seems to have been on there about a year. Odd.

Also i'm not sure what will happen in the future when the PS4 comes out. Will we have to remain members of PS+ to retain our "free" games or will they eventually grant an unlimited licence? There's a chance I might not want a PS4 so would suck to be tied in and not get any more games.

OK that's a few negatives but believe it or not, I think they are still outweighed by the positives ;)

^^Some game are only temporarily available... if you had not gotten the free purchase option to re download it and the unlock key. I don't mess with free games that come from trials. Its confusing.

Thanks for your summary on PS Plus tyger:)
Of course I would get PS Plus if it had games that I like, racing,TPS,sports etc.
The themes and dicounts are ok,but I think I can live without PS Plus because the best games(in my opinion)don't come to PS Plus and I already have my favourite games already on disc.
I going of topic here but,I wish there were better racing sims out there for PS3 because GT5 seems to be the only one I like. Also I've been considering getting Ferrari challenge and Supercar challenge and I want to know if they're any good, are they good simulations? Are the graphics good etc

I have Ferrari Challenge, it's decent but not amazing. I've heard Supercar Challenge is basically Ferrari Challenge plus the DLC and a few non-Ferraris, look up the car and track lists before you buy both because you might be wasting your money otherwise. Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legends seems to have gone down quite well (there's a thread here about it), apart from that the only other even nearly serious racing games I can think of are the Shift games and Grid, but they're not as good as GT5 either. GT5 is the best simulation and has the best graphics on PS3.

Edit: just wait for Project CARS or get a decent PC and a wheel, there's a ton of new sims coming next year.

Ok thanks for the suggestion I'm waiting for Pcars to come out on PS3.:)

Firstly and most importantly, I am a racer and only play racing games. Shooting games and Role Playing games simply hold no interest for me what so ever. That being said ....

I signed up for PLUS the day it launched since it promised free exclusive access to game demos. This was at a point in time that discussions were well underway that a demo of GT5 may become available before release and that was my sole impetus to plunking down the $50 at the time. Needless to say, the GT5 demo never materialized and no significant racing content ever appeared. For me, it was a complete waste of money. The only tangible benefit might be the ability to save game saves to their server ("cloud"). Since USB flash drives are so inexpensive, that benefit never materialized either. I quickly decided that I definitely would not be renewing this questionable piece of marketing slight of hand.

Now for the interesting part .....

As I purchase DLC for GT5, I found it convenient to check the box allowing Sony to "automatically add funds to my wallet" to facilitate buying car and track packs. Then one day, I get an email telling me that Sony has automatically charged my credit card for $50. Quite perplexed, I contact Sony Customer Service who then informed me that they have automatically renewed my PLUS membership. I insist that there is no way I would have approved such a purchase. The Sony representative then literally laughed in my face while informing me that there is a small "fine print" clause with PLUS membership that gives Sony the right to do this if you simply check the box allowing funds to be added to your wallet. He refused to cancel the transaction and was ademant about not being willing to do anything to keep a 30 year Sony customer within the Sony family. I had been a fanatical Sony advocate for 30 years and my house was filled with dozens of Sony products. I had even visited the Sony headquarters in Tokyo in 1980 and brought back a couple of the first Walkmans into the US. Trinitrons in every room, Sony video and still cameras, mini-discs, surround sound systems etc. etc. ... nothing but Sony products in my house. I asked the Sony rep if milking me for the additional $50 was worth losing a valued customer for life and his response was again .... laughter 👎👎 He refused to do anything.

Over the last couple years I have been upgrading to HD TVs and my house is now filled with Samsung flatscreens and Blu-ray players. My PS3s are the only Sony products I now own. The PLUS fiasco wound up costing me $100 for something I never used but it allowed me to see what happens to a reputable company when they become so big in the music and movie business that they completely abandon their desire to be in the hardware business. Sony has never seen a penny from me since, nor will they ever ... at least until the PS4 comes out.

Its common practice among pretty much every and any "Trial" or "subscription". If Sony gave you your money back for you own irresponsibly every company would have to do this regardless if said irresponsible consumer is telling the truth or not when its stated that it renews automatically. And that's bad business if someone can just lie(not in your case) and get their money back.

Its your fault and not Sony's. They also make it very easy to cancel before the renewal hits. You should re-evaluate your abandonment since it's common practice if you were truly faithfully. I do not believe Sony owes you anything.

I have Plus as a gift from my sister however there really isn't much content I'm interested in to be honest.

I could not find where anything was actually stated ... just going by what the guy said. It is not stated upfront and it is purposly hidden in my opinion. It also is, as you put it, bad business when a customer support staff laughs in your face. Considering that my call took place the moment i received the email notifying me that my card had been charged. This is further supported by the fact that they don't tell you what they have charged your card for. Every subscription to anything I've ever had is usually upfront about notifying me when something is about to expire and what the terms of renewal are. Very few things are renewed "automatically" in this way. I also don't know what you mean by "They also make it very easy to cancel before the renewal hits" when no notification of any kind was given. Under the circumstances I felt taken advantage of and manipulated by a large corporation who in the end didn't really care about how their customers related to their business practices. It is their perogative to hide this as they do and it is my perogative to cut Sony completely from my lifestyle ... not really a matter of whether or not it "was my fault" as you put it. Most reputable companies have within their corporate structure something known as "good will policies" that allow representatives to be flexible in trying to accomodate long standing customers.

You probably should have called back and spoken to another representative. I've read of similar resubscription issues with Plus and the rep refunded the money. MLB.tv refunded my money after it renewed when I didn't want it and it seems most companies are willing to do so.

It is pretty easy to cancel auto renew through, just check the box that says auto renew. This auto renew is pretty common with subscription services though. A lot of people like to blame the company but they are the ones not understanding what they are agreeing to.

Its definitely not a Sony corporate scheme to shaft users. I was aware of the auto renewal the day I signed up, nothing was hidden from me.
