Can a mod type person explain to me what exactly constitutes spam?

Threads like TCB and the Ex- Rumple Club were put in the test forum so noobs couldnt use them to boost their post count. Yet the Rumble Strip is currently inhabited by threads that are virtually identical in content to both those threads; yet they remain where they are.

I am not saying close them, but move them - that way we can see just who the post whores are, and who the genuine post contributers are...

Edit: See below for list of offenders. I am predominantly chafed with those contained in the Rumble Strip.

Not just from the Rumble Strip.

Here is a list of some spam-dog threads.

900 on mainly on topic posts about Skylines seems fair enough to me. There are people who actually own Skylines who post in that thread.

Yes, *cough* I wonder which whore has the most *cough* posts in that *cough* thread. He must be a hugenormous whore. I have found out about a few bands that were awesome in tha thread, so I wouldn't say it's a total waste.

Oh and the nitto thread is awesome, it mainly consists of one 13 year old gangsta hardass swearing at people.

I have discovered quite a few bands and songs in the What are you listening to?? thread.

The Rumple Club is the ****tiest club ever.

Klostrophobic: Right behind you on that. They need somewhere to "chat" and leave the boards for 'discussion'. But as we've learned, that doesn't work very well.

That thread has broadened my musical horizons, long live "What are you listening to?"

Some people post far too often in it, though.

Unsolicited messages which are not requested and/or unsought by any of the acknowledged members/member-base.

Acknowledged members; members whose existence on these forums are tolerated. They're recognized as being valid or having force or power.

Our member-base is very broad. Certain messages may seem unsolicited by certain members, but can be acknowledged by the overall member-base/forum authority.

Its been a long day, so it took me a while to read and understand that.

Am I correct in saying: posting contentless material = postwhoring = spam, if done on a continual basis?

Yes. It can also be a capital offense. Look for posts by a kid named scottyjoe. He got himself banned with out ever technically violating the TOS or AUP. He was just terminally unable to post anything worth reading.

We try hard to have a fair and flexible definition of what constitutes spam. The "What are you listening to?" thread is most definitely not spam, since a lot of valid discussion and music information changes hands. The avatar threads are more on the border, but again, they're still reasonably on-topic so they are tolerated.

I didn't notice when you posted this thread, but you will note that yesterday I moved the "two questions" thread and the "user above" thread to the Test Forum. I hadn't seen this thread at the time; I just thought they had run their more than reasonable course and should be sent to Spam Heaven for those with one-track minds.

The guy who posted all over the Opinions board yesterday about worshipping Satan and Slayer was most definitely spamming. He's collected his first official warning, both publicly and in PM, for that.

So, much as we woul like there to be, there is no hard and fast definition of spam, just as there is no set definition of obscenity. It's a fine line to tread between a useless-spamfest forum and a high-quality-but-dead forum.

Would you prefer we make a different thread for each skyline topic we talk about? We don't bother other people and we keep to ourselves, how does 900 posts bother you? Maybee if you went in and read them you would learn a thing or two. We discuss everything from performance modifications, maintenance, and all aspect of the skyline. Also there are many skylines not just one, and yes a few people own skylines and we discuss things about them in the thread.

Thanks for clearing that up. I saw the two threads were moved and originally thought it was due to this, but a marvellous coincidence nonetheless.

:)
