It is not 'a NASCAR.' NASCAR stands for 'National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing.' The cars are called 'Stock Cars' not NASCARS. Please, please, please stop doing that!

People can call them what they please.

This has nothing to do with GT5. Just because a NASCAR (:sly:) is in the game doesn't mean it's a GT5 related topic...

To be honest, I don't care, and shall continue to call them NASCAR....

Does it really matter? And is it really worth starting a thread for?

Really?

Valid point, but as others have said, a bit hopeless.

I cringe whenever someone types "STI" or "VW GTi", but there's no use in correcting them, people will call stuff what they want, right or wrong. :indiff:

Or correcting X1 to X2010, as I know. :)

Can I ask why the misnomer on VW GTI?

Where I live people frequently refer to them as a VW GTI and don't understand why that would be an issue.

They are more NAS than they are stock.

It's a NASCAR since none of the part is stock.

I can see getting annoyed at people calling a stock car a nascar, but I don't get why you'd be annoyed at someone calling an STI and STI, or a GTi a GTi. Would you rather people say "subaru impreza sti" or "volkswagen golf gti"? That's very anal of you.

Who cares. It's garbage whatever they are called. I'd called it BORING!

It's a VW GTI, not a GTi. Also, an STi, not an STI.

Not sure if that's more or less anal than you thought, but it also goes down to trademarking rules. I think Subaru may have recently changed to STI, but I'm not sure. I don't follow them so much anymore.

I believe peugot's GTis have the lowercase i, but VW is an "I".

Golf I GTI '76
Golf IV GTI '01
Golf IV GTI RM '01
Golf V GTI '05
Lupo GTI '01
Lupo GTI Cup Car (J) '03

Would they be referring to a Golf GTI or a Lupo GTI?

I don't care how they're called at all, although I love NASCARS.

Same with the X2010, it will always X1 for me. If PD releases an X2011, it will be my X2:D

Stock car can mean a car straight from the dealership (unmodified). It would make it rather confusing to call a race car a stock car for most folks.

Driving one in GT5 is actually fun. Watching it on TV is another story...

Gotchya, I drive a WRX and don't really care if it's spelled in all caps or not but I can kind of understand why a someone would

An F1 car isn't an F1 car, it's a car built by Ferrari, or McLaren, or Renault... and so on.

However, people call them "F1 cars" because they naturally identify them by the formula for which they're built.

Cars built to the NASCAR formula are known as NASCARS for the same reason. "Stock Cars" is equally accurate in that context but is ultimately much more misleading given that many places outside the US think of 'stock' cars as something else.

Use of NASCAR to refer to cars in the NASCAR formula is entirely valid and linguistically proper.

If the term stock car was used it would be ambiguous as different countries have different ideas on what stock cars are. As this is a global game they have tried to make the name as descriptive as possible.

Except for they have not been Stock Cars for many many years now.

Beat me to it, I was going to make the same point. NASCAR is the series and therefore we refer to the cars in that series as NASCAR cars.
We don't refer to the F2007 and the F10 collectively as Single seaters in regular discussions do we, some may not understand to what we are referring. We list them according to their series and technical regulations.

No, An F1 car is an F1 car - because the car part refers to it as a car. No one calls Forumula 1 Cars just F1 - as in "I just bought an F1" - they'd say "I just bought an F1 car".

Basically, the whole issue the OP has with people calling the cars in NASCAR - simply "NASCAR's" (or "NASCAR" non plural) would be resolved if people said "NASCAR car" much like people say "F1 Car".

So an F1 car is an "F1 Car", and a NASCAR is a "NASCAR Car"

But who cares anyway.

Actually, it's not and pretty much anyone who watches NASCAR is going to think 'What an idiot...' if you do.

Just sayin'...

Exactly, no one says "I picked up a BTCC" or "I bought an ALMS". I think that NASCAR ending in "car" is the main reason this happens.

It's not a NAS car, it's a NASCAR car, or NASCAR Stock Car, etc.

+1. Why is this a big deal?

I don't think they will. You're just really anal about this...

Nobody cares...
