I have been having a problem with GT5 since about update 1.07. Although I am on PSN and my internet connection is enabled, GT5 says it cannot connect to the network. Nothing for online works? does anyone know what is happening and how to fix it? or do I need a new disk, or worse, PS3? PLEASE help.

It just happened. A message comes up saying that "a connection to the server could not be established. (ID: (some number, in this case,) 1:531.)

I had the same issue and had to turn off Media Server Connection under the PS3's network settings. I dont know why it happened but thats what fixed it for me. Have you tried resetting your router and the ps3?

my internet is working and I am connected through wireless.

If you are getting a specific code with the error, enter that into Google. I have had several connection issues that I resolved by simply entering the exact code into Google, and following whatever instructions I find.

It looks like router configuration...
Solution: go to network settings, and go through the network setup in custom mode. Let the machine pick up everything else automatically (like you probably do now), but override the DNS settings manually (you should be able to get this info out of your current router config, or ask your ISP).

With my router's IP out of the DNS list, I was able to start the game and get the "Online Agreement" popup at the start and move through the menu normally.

So there you have it. Thanks go out to Google, which let me track down forum threads in many different places before I was able to find something that worked. No thanks to Sony and Polyphony, who seem to be completely mum on this issue.

If you don't know what dns to use, try Google Public DNS as a test... 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Do you have more than 1 profile on your PS3 if so try starting a new game on another profile and see if that helps. I'm having some problems with the remote races staying connected. Also you might try during "off" hours late night/ early morning. I find that if I disconnect my PC it helps sometimes. Have you done a connection test on your PS3 to see what your download/upload speeds are.(This will also tell you what your strength is for your wireless connection is).

I have done several connection tests. Everything comes back positive. I don't don't know, i think I might need to get a new disk. :indiff:

When you turn on your PS3 just sign in from there BEFORE your start GT5. The same thing happened to me and it is now the only way I can get online with GT5. Hope that helps. :D

But that starts the 2.5 minute wait for the message to say that GT5 cannot connect to the network just before the intro movie, with the GT5 logo and white text with online terms of use. I don't it's fixable.

Hmmm, that does sound weird. I found I just had to login under the PSN Network and then once I started the game everything was fine. Well, I hope maybe another member can help you with your problem. :)

It sure sounds like the DNS fix is needed... Many others had the same problem and it was fixed by the instructions I referenced. Why don't you give it a try? What have you got to lose at this point?

Ensure that UPnP is still enabled on your PS3 and on your router, if you can, check the UPnP table on your router to make sure your PS3 is opening up ports.

I was involved in a thread a while ago where a guy was saying it was the middle man router causing the problem ... I don't recall you saying whether you where on ADSL or cable ... So if you're on cable run your incoming cable straight into your PS3 instead of your modem / router so it gets a live ip, apparently that fixes the problem ...

Try to set up a wired connection, Gt5 seems to be rather picky when it comes to wifi...

I,ve seen it a couple of times now, and it's always the wifi who is the evil do-er.

idk if anyone said this already, but try to connect your ps3 via cable. i had issues with my internetspeed while connected wireless, with cable it works fine.

Ok, I'll try that. Thanks to everyone who's willing to help. Would love to do more seasonal events/online racing and see whats new in the online dealership.:)
