PS3 Phat has just YLOD and died. Have over 1000 cars in garage and tuned etc.. 60 Gold ... Game save is backed up to USB. The YLOD got worse, the PS3 does not even recognise power supply, PS3 is completely dead. No light.
I will buy a new PS3 today so salvaged my GT5 game disc by taking console apart.
It just dawned on me, can I restore my save data to new PS3 as long as I create the same PSN ID.
If this cannott be done I'll just have to bite the bullett and wipe GT5 outta my life.
So can I do this on a new PS3??

GT5 Saves I think are linked to your PSN account.

so is it safe for me to get a new PS3 and restore my game save??
not doing all that car collecting and liscenses again.
i only use PS3 for GT5 so if it can't be done i will not buy another PS3:grumpy:
thanks for advise

It's safe as long as you know your PSN account information to re-copy your save to a new system.

E-mail and password and that is it.

I don't think you necessarily have to get a new PS3. If you're delicate and know a bit about technology, you could repair the YLOD problem yourself (plenty of videos/procedures to help you, but try this site first, for trustworthiness). And you could buy the PS3's power supply (I don't think it's a dedicated model, so maybe any can work). But regardless, I'm not too sure if GT5 saves really does link to your PSN instead of the PS3. I'm sure someone here can prove or disprove it. Jakhole got it.

gt5 saves are linked to the psn I have the same psn on two ps3's get your new unit use a existing account when signing for psn on the new unit use the current account that gt5 is on and it is done and ready to roll

As others have said...if you have have your e-mail and password you're good to go on a new unit.

I believe you lose replays and tracks and will have to rebuild a lot of your thumbnails, and that's all!

thanks for such quick replies guys:tup:
so to clarify, buy new PS3 - recreate original account using same ID , Email & password, instal GT5, instal game save data back up from USB to same username/email/PSN ID/password etc,
And all will be ok ??

this happened to me over the last 2 months.

your GT5 save is linked to your PSN account. it will be fine.

How'd you go in the end ?

The only reason i ask is my ps3 has died 3 times before & because of this i generally backup my game to a USB stick myself !

As others have stated, all you basically need is your email and password. So you should be fine.

Off Topic: only use your PS3 for GT5?? All I gotta say is that your missing out on A LOT of stuff my friend.

i also confirm it too, I have 2 ps3's also, just sign-in to PSN with your new console, activate the console and you are good to go.
the only thing that you've lost is replays, custom tracks and pics nothing else.

btw.....YLOD also happens when the PSU fails, you may not need to buy a new PS3 just a new PSU.

If your ps3 is less than 2 years old, Sony will replace it.

edit: for free

It was the 60gb original bought on PS3 release date. So is waaaay out of warranty. I suppose i was lucky it lasted as long as it did:crazy:
Just got home with a new 160gb PS3 slim and installing GT5 at this very moment.

I am happy to say that I got my save data loaded onto new PS3 OK. Licsenses, cars and credits in tact, phew.
The only set back so far is I have to recreate the thumbnails for nearly every car (1000+) manualy and individualy:scared:
This will take some time,
Thanks to everyone that advised i'd be ok with a new PS3 without losing everything 👍

It's not lucky it made it that long, it's pathetic. It drives me nuts you can't buy a $500 electronic device and have it last 5 years anymore.

Anyways, if it was just a power supply, that is the easiest thing to replace. Even worst case scenario you would of had to reflow the mother board, which isn't too challenging. And you get satisfaction of fixing it yourself. Instead of buying a brand new one that doesn't have all the features of the 1st gen fatties. I've done numerous repairs on mine without prior knowledge. If I only used my ps3 for one game, I would probably just let it go.
