If it's deleted data, you have to stop writing to the hard disk now.
There are no zero-cost options for file recovery that I know of. Some trialware will show you what files can be recovered, and can then recover anything below 50KB free, as a proof-of-concept. I used R-Studio to recover a dead drive a couple of years ago. But it costs money, and you say you can't use a credit card.

Ripping a DVD to a hard drive is one of those things that is technically illegal, but one rather suspects it wouldn't be enforced if you had immediate access to the genuine discs and could prove it was for personal use.
Fundamentally, if you have no ability to pay, you need to re-rip the movies. Which of course wouldn't be a problem, because you have the originals.
