After reading many of the posts in this forum about what should be added or what-not, I have decided to create a post regarding one thing, engines.

Would fans of the GT series be willing to sacrifice the amount of vehicles in the game for variations of different engines offered by manufacturers.

For example, I personally own a 95 VW VR6. This engine, however, is not present in the game. There are other various engines in GT4 that are produced by VW such as the 1.8T found in the Seat Ibiza Cupra and the new 2.0l FSI engine found in the MKV GTI. But personally, I hope PD would be willing to sacrifice certain models of cars (say maybe ONE of the 93-95 Civic SiR-II's along with others) in order to include engines such as the 12v VR6, older BMW engines and even more American engines!

Maybe I am being biased towards the inclusion of more non-Japanese engines but I figured I would rant regardless. I recently purchased Forza (GOD FORBID :sick: ) and since playing I have noticed this seems to be the basis for their car selection. Hell, im not saying that GT5 should be more like Forza because the two games differ COMPLETELY, but I would be willing to sacrifice certain cars for more representation.

It could be that I am just greedy because GT4 DOES represent many engines VERY well but most of these are Japanese. I dunno, just post any engines you want to see, or ones that you don't in GT5

:) Polyphony Digital, please include:
2.8/2.9 12v VR6

More diesels, please! :D The 120d Bimmer is kewl, but I'm hoping for a few more in GT5, particularly mine (an M-B W126 300 SD).
Oh, and from the "WTF Files," how about that SOHC Pontiac six from 1966 to '69?

I think the 1.8Ts are actually faster. There's quite a bit of aftermarket support for them, too, so they're probably still quicker untill you start getting into some expensive/extensive modification.

OnTopic!; Yes, I think that'd be a great idea. It'd go along with allowing you to select the trim level when you buy from the dealer. Besides being just a flat-out good idea, modeling an engine can't be nearly as hard as modeling a whole new car, and it pads out the #s just as well.

More diesels= very yes. I really like driving the 120i, it's as torquey as it is ugly (very!).

If there gonna include a VR6 engine they should include the 3.2l-engine from the VW Golf R32. And from engines in general I'd love to see the BMW V10, Ferrari V8 and V12 and off course the famous VAG W16 (from the Bugatti) and include the option to connect 4 turbo's. :bowdown:

There wouldn't be a 3.2L 24v VR6 without the 2.8/9l 12v VR6. If GT5 is anything like we hope it will be, it will celebrate the history of cars. That would mean retaining the two motor carriages along with possibly adding other older cars. Therefore, adding engines that display the progression of a company would be a perfect combination.

And as for the 1.8T, there is a larger aftermarket for these engines simply because it is turbocharged. There is plenty of support for the late VR6 (12v & 24v) engines (may it rest in peace) but turbocharged engines benefit WAY more with ECU upgrades and such. I personally just like having "torque-on-demand" with the VR6, it really is a shame that no new VW houses one in the states right now. Im not sure what engine the new R36 (Golf and Jetta, thats right, JETTA) will house but if VW is smart they will always keep their narrow-angle block around.

More diesel engines would be nice, especially if it was the engine found in the Audi R10!!!!!!!

How about when you're selecting a car to buy you can have a sub menu (after you've selected the car you want) that gives you different engine sizes.

Like a Vauxhall Corsa has a 1.0l, 1.2l, 1.4l....etc engines.

Have these selectable.

Maybe not all of them probably 1.4l (cheap) and the 1.8l (More power)

Use the PS3's extra storage disc space to put these engines in.

Since right now a DVD disc for Gran Tursimo holds about 9gb of data they are going to need to find a way to fill up the extra space they will gain when they get the new Blu Ray discs (can't remember the exact number but its about I think 25-30gb)

New tracks, new cars,damage and new engines will probably what will be used to fill up this space.

Engine choice shouldn't take up much space so all the cars in the game could get a engine choice.

Also the engines could effect the weight of a car. A 1.4 will be lighter than a 2.0l so including engines will give a way to change a car's weight without modification. Maybe.

Hopefully you understand what i mean. :nervous:

A showroom outfitter would be awesome. Pick car, engine, accessories, etc... should include "optional" wheels (the regular 1" or 2" upsize manufacturers offer... make a real difference in handling).

And I'm still pissed that mods like turbos, intercoolers and the like don't affect weight.

Assuming(they better) the Cobalt, how about the base 2.2 and both SS engine's the 2.4 and the surpercharged 2.0 - I too, have long looked for a VR6, but was dissapointed, again, though wasnt it in GT2? I believe they had the VR6 before, maybe I'm mistaken.
They do sound great though, at least with exhaust....
How bout non-turbo lancer's? or the older Civic's with the 1.7 sohc, and these are even Japanese, don't get me started on American cars that shuld be in, and the different engines they should include, like V6 Mustang's and Camaro/Firebird's...

Engine swaps would be an awesome add for GT5. Like putting an R32, R33 or an R34 engine, or even better, the new GT-R's engine to an older Skyline, like the 2000GT-R HT. That would be so kick-ass. Especially if, and as, GT5 has online play, it would be awesome to fool your mates with a "sleeper car". I'd love it.
If the Skyline example doesn't sound nice, then how about this: a Porsche's six cylinder boxer engine fitted to the rear of an old, harmless, Volkswagen 1100... :drool:
Hell yeah! We want more engines, and engine swaps!!!

Yes. Genius.

thats absolutly correct dude!

i would love, as a mercedes 55, 65 amg fan, to put swap engines around other old mercedes.but there should also be a small limit...i dont wanna ride with a 476BHP motor in a 127 year old PATENT WAGEN or MOTOR CARRIEGE!! :) :dopey: :sly:

What about getting the dimensions (rough) of the engines and compare them with the rough dimensions of the car you want to put the engine into.

Like a Vauxhall Corsa 1.4l engine bay (I'm familar with Vauxhalls :) )

Just for convience well take the dimensions of the engine bay to be 150cm (across) by 120cm (Nose to windscreen)

The 1.4l engine takes up 110cm by 90cm

The engine you want to put in is a 2.0l turbo (slightly large than a 2.0l NA)

The 2.0l Turbo has dimensions of 140cm by 110cm

This means the 2.0l Turbo will fit

But If you want to put in a 3.0l engine with dimensions of 165cm by 130cm it can't be done.

Thats one way.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another way could be you could swap the position of the engine
A Vauxhall Corsa 1.4l is front engined. Take that engine out of the front and get a large engine like a 2.5L
Using the same dimension method above you could make it that the car becomes mid engined, Rear wheel drive (like a Renault Clio V6) but still have the limits by the size of the car inside.
You couldn't fit a 5.7L V8 engine from a Corvette into the back of a corsa
This will change the whole handling of the car and its feel because the engine is now in the middle instead of the front.
Thats just my opinion on how i think it should be done.
i think because it's a racing game, they should put in the most powerful version of each car... no point to add slow engines into a racing game...
I think since they can use the same car model for a lot of models they should, since it takes very little time to create a second car that looks similar. If they put my 1.9 206 in I'd love it, but the 1.9 isn't the fastest, or the most powerful 306. Infact, it's not always the case where the biggest engine is the top performer. I think they should keep offering us the choice. I am fond of the idea of engine swaps and drive conversions.
I see your point but different engines in the sma car perform differently.
Take the Mercedes Benz Sl
The SL65 AMG is the most powerful version of the car (I think) but isn't the best handler because of the huge engine up the front.
The SL500 has a much smaller engine so is lighter and will perform better in the corners.
So you either take acceleration in the straights or good cornering.
Racing games don't neccessary need the cars to have the most powerful games.
Also with Gran Turismo being a Driving game aswell you can see why people would not just want the most powerful engine for each model.
but what about this then: lets say i wanna buy a Volvo 240 '84 in GT5. first i chose model, exampels: GLT, GLT Turbo, DL and more... I chose the GLT turbo. then i chose body, and the GLT Turbo was just avalible with Estate (245) or Sedan 4dr (244), the Sedan 2dr (242) was'nt availible with the turbo engine. so i chose Sedan 4dr (244) and then i chose from the colours they offered for this model, i chose brown metallic. and then i got this car:
like this?
I was just taking it as an example of how not to go too far when being allowed to swap engines.
I actually read today about a 3.0 V6 being put into a corsa but the example was just to show how the physical size of an engine can determine if it would be able to fit in a car in GT5. (kind of like a limiter so someone can't put a huge engine in a tiny car)
But like SkylineGoes said that V6 doesn't look healthy in that position
Engines are pretty complicated, I'd say there'd be at least as much data under the hood of and SLR as it would take to code the body of a small, simplistic car.
Of course, the SLR (along with most modern vehicles) wouldn't be as bad as some cars. Modern engines tend to be pretty featureless on top (the side you'd be seeing in the game, and probably the only one they'd model*). They're usually covered to a large extent with silly cosmetic plastic things (the RX-8 is particularly bad for this). On the other hand, older engine bays would be absolute murder to model. Especially American V8s from the 70s, sooo many vaccum lines :scared:...
*That would also be a completely insane undertaking, but I'd really appriciate it.
Why is it so important to be able to make engine transplants? Isn't it enough to tune the standard engines? They can allow you to purshase stage 4 turbo with any car, but only if you upgrade the engine components first so it wont break down... bad idea?
Because it's fun! Sometimes it's the best way to tune a car. Many cheap used Hondas can be made into potent compact rockets with a B16 swap, when you could dump twice as much into the stock engine and not be as fast.
I know the easiest way to make a MkII Supra fast is to put in a turbo engine from a later model. What they let you do in GT2 and 4, 300 hp NA with the stock engine, is just stupid. It's bloody expensive to get over 200whp out of the stock engine.
Besides, are you saying, in spite of every impression I have of you from your other posts, that you would not like to put a Chevy big block in a Volvo 240?
