So i'm considering starting to get into IRacing and need a PC for it. I plan to run 3 monitors (probably 24" screens) on a stand.

Corsair 300R case
Corsair TX650 V2 power supply
Intel i5-3570K CPU (overclocked to 3.7GHz)
Enermax ETS-T40 CPU cooler
ASUS P8Z77-V LX motherboard
Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600 memory
Radeon HD 7870 2GB graphics card
Active displayport to DVI adapter for the third monitor
ASUS Xonar DG sound card
1TB SATA HDD, 7200rpm
CD/DVD Burner
Win7 Home Premium 64bit

I can swap graphics card from the 7870 to a 7970 for another $200. I think I plan on doing that just so I can have a higher end graphics card up front.

I understand the minimum requirements for Iracing, i'm just wondering how this particular setup should run it? Will it be fast and smooth at higher level of detail?

A friend tossed out the idea of skipping the 1TB drive and running just a single 128GB SSD for Windows and Iracing. He said it will all boot much faster and take up around 40gb.

Thoughts on this setup?

I'm not familiar with some of those components , but overall those specs should run iRacing maxxed out without raising a sweat. I run an i5 2500k , 1GB Graphics card and 4GB of ram and mine runs it maxxed no problems. (I only run a single monitor though)

I also run an SSD as I only use this PC for gaming and don't need a huge amount of storage. Good idea I reckon , nice to have a fast boot when you realise a race starts in 3 minutes !

Hi there, ninjajimmy! I suggest you should get yourself a HD 7950. It's not too far behind from the HD 7970 and it's a lot cheaper (I just checked Newegg and they were at around $300). And yes, get an SSD, preferably >120GB.

I have never owned an Enermax Cpu cooler, but as long as it does not get in the way of the RAM slots and cools your CPU then your fine. 7870 is a good card but if you get a 7950 then you can overclock it to the performance of a 7970. You should be able to run iRacing on max settings fine with a 7870.

Thanks guys. I don't mind spending for the higher graphics card. The 7950 being only around $100 less than the 7970 i'd rather just pony up that $100 now and not have to worry about it. This is what we're looking at now.

500GB 7200rpm secondary drive

Junk the sound card. Most motherboards have decent quality sound processors on board now. Also, I think you'll find the processor can quite safely overclock to 4GHz, if you want to take it that high.

With a decent cooler, absolutely. I run my 3570K at 4.3GHz underneath a CoolerMaster Hyper 212+ :)

Just wanted to let you know what we decided on. Should be a decent setup.

Case: Corsair Carbide 300R with window
PSU: Seasonic X750 Gold
CPU: Intel i5-3570K overclocked to 4.2GHz if it can be done
CPU Cooler: Phanteks TC14PE
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H
Memory: 8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600 low-profile
Graphics: Gigabyte Radeon HD 7970 3GB
Sound: ASUS Xonar DG
Wireless: ASUS PCE-N15
SSD: Crucial M4 128GB (Windows and Iracing will be on here)
HDD: WD 2TB Green (just a secondary drive for other stuff.)
CD/DVD Burner -- Lite-ON iHAS424
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Also picking up 3 Dell 24" U2412M monitors next. This is exciting...but more than I planned on spending! Oh well you only live once 👍

I've got one U2412M, it's absolutely gorgeous. I was just thinking earlier on about how I'm going to buy three more (because the one I have is for my Mac) and a second GTX 680 if/when I can afford it, The Samsung 226BWs I have on my rig are getting a little old. And they're only 1680x1050.

Also when you get your M4, check the firmware on it. If it's not 010G then update it, the old firmware (009) had a bug which killed the drive after 5,000 hours. Well, not totally killed, but it makes using it a real pain. I just updated mine today after assuming it was just dead and it's perfect again. I love that thing.

I ended up going with Asus 24" VS248H-P LED monitors. It saved me $300 + over the Dells and I felt that would be well used for a monitor stand which I just ordered. The extra money also allowed me to scoop up a Derek Speare Button Box.
