Well, I convinced my company to give me a PDA recently, and it's quite fun, because it can use it's IR port to talk to the IR port on my phone, and that means I can read GTPlanet when I'm in dull meetings, which is pretty much whenever I'm away from my desk (when I'm using one or other of my machines to access GTPlanet anyway!).

There are some issues with PocketIE that I thought I'd bring to the attention of Jordan, but I've forgotten most of them, so it would be really cool if others who use Pocket IE could contribute also.

The one I can remember concerns the formatting of the "Location" field in showthread.php. When you see a post from someone who puts a valid location in their field, it looks fine. However, when people use this field to show other information about themselves (*cough* vat_man *cough*), then this field does not format correctly. That is to say that there is no line break. It is as if there is a <nobr> at the start of the field, and a </nobr> at the end of the field.

I will come up with others as I remember them. And I have a three day business trip next week, so expect lots of PDA action!!!

Ohh you mean like the people who put other stuff in their location? I hate those people!!!

When I'm browsing GTPlanet on my Jornada, I SO don't read your posts! I have to scroll like THREE MILES to the right to see what you've written, and it's NEVER worth it!!!!

j/k :D

I have longed to view the site on a PDA, but I never have had access to one connected to the Internet. :( The Location problem is interesting, however. There are no line breaks in there as users cannot enter HTML into that field, so it is apparently ignoring the set width of that column... :thatsodd:

hehe Giles, then don't read them! Screw you and people who know you!

J/K ofcourse...

Your problems is wierd though...

It is, I know. I've seen a number of differences between 'normal' IE and Pocket IE, and I thought Jordan may find us enumerating how these differences affect viewing GTP useful.

It's dead easy as long as your PDA has an IR port and your phone does too. Just define your ISP's dial-up settings on the PDA, enable IR on the phone, line them up, and Bob's your uncle.

I thought the location thing was odd too. It's almost as if Pocket IE has no intelligence in formatting tables. If I find a solution I'll let you know!

Humm... I wonder if I can find an IR cheap for my cable connection...

Giles, I think that whenever microsoft updates that, it will fix it. It almost seems like it won't let you use preformatted tables instead of dynamic ones.

GG where do you work mate, just out of Interest? :D

Can you actually send information using a PDA connected to a mobile or Laptop? For example could you post in :gtp:?

I'd change it but I don't want to - although helping you to read GTPlanet in boring meetings is what I'd regard as a worthy cause.

Thanks Vat. Your desire to contribute to my welfare at work is noted!

I work for AWG Morrison in Edinburgh. I'm an IT Projects Analyst.

Yes, you can send information from a PDA connected through a mobile. I have a PocketPC, which comes with Pocket Internet Explorer. It's just like regular IE, only a little cut-down. I've frequently made posts here while dialled in. You have to remember that as long as your device can establish a connection to the internet, you can do all the normal stuff.
