So recently I updated my ipod firmware, and now I see on the main screen that I have podcast listening available. This is like the hot new trend I guess:rolleyes:, so I supppose I'll be a wanker and try some out. I was checking out itunes but there's so many to choose from it's a bit ridiculous. Anybody have any favorite podcasts that I might like before I randomly download some to try out?

Gasp! A moderator being told off! Now i've seen everything ;)

For the record though, i used to listen to one of the auto news ones, for one episode ;)

I did a search for podcast, but nothing came up except a post suggesting that GTP have one. Guess I should have added an 's' to find the other thread.

Oh, i've done that before :ouch:

I think i heard on the news that either the archbishop of canterbury or the pope or somebody to do with the church has made a podcast.

I downloaded Ebert and Roeper's movie review podcast, since there were a few movies I was interested in seeing and never seem to catch the show. Not bad.

Flame-returns
I have a suggestion, GET AN iRIVER!!!!

Forget podcasts, real radio triumphs fake.

Yea, I'll throw out my perfectly functional 40 gig ipod that I've had for nearly a year which completley meets all of my needs, and run right out and buy an iRiver.

And the whole point of a podcast is that you can listen to a show, at your own convienience, as often as you like, and you choose the subject matter that you listen to. With no commercials. Not to mention that you have access to about 1000% more listening choices than your local radio reception area. So yea, "Forget podcasts, real radio triumphs fake".👎

I battled with the iPod/satellite radio decision for a while but then I was given an iPod for Christmas.

Anyone thinking that broadcast radio can compete with an iPod either has much better radio stations than I do here or their music tastes are so limited that they can just sit on one radio station happily, commercials and all. When was the last time your radio station played Nirvana, followed by Mancini, then an audio book chapter, a talk radio show, and then an old-time radio drama (my personal favorite) without a single commercial?

CFM, as far as suggesting a podcast for you, that is all in personal tastes. Not knowing you or your tastes I couldn't even begin to point you in the right direction. I have noticed that some of the free podcasts aren't very enjoyable though. Some are good but for quality the $5 a month subscription shows are the best. Many of those won't use iTunes because they have been doing the subscription fees for a year now. If you have a favroite show or type of show I recommend checking their Web sites.

EDIT: CFM, I just downloaded all of the Earthcore audiobook to my iPod last night. I only listened to the prologue but it seems interesting. The guy who reads it is also the writer and does voices for different characters. It has a warning about language and violence, so that may be an issue.

I've also noticed most of the Air America shows are on iTunes, if that interests you. I don't really have a desire to listen to people argue politics but didn't know about you.

Thanks for the tip foolkiller. I downloaded "Ebert and Roeper at the Movies" to listen to at work so I could get some ideas of what current movies I might like to go see. Today I went to the Library and checked out some audiobooks also to listen to at work, which will be decent change from music all the time. It should be nice to be able to move around and do my job without having to sit in one place reading, and keep getting interrupted.

As for the paid subscription podcasts, that's not in my future. I'd rather buy more CD's with the money instead.👍
