My guess is that if we would get points while drifting online, we wouldn't have these guys coming onto the track in their super-dialed-in GT3 or whatever, do 1 or 2 laps and then exit.
I'm no better myself. When I enter a driftroom, and see the laptime beeing let's say 1:00:00, and I know that I can be faster, but while drifting, I WILL try to beat that time. But then again, I will try to do it while going sideways, not with 100% traction at every wheel.
Of course it's fun to know how fast I can go round the track, but with these people showing up every now and then, it just takes the fun out of it. All that the leaderbord of the room shows is who is fastest, not who is the best drifter.
An alternative would be if there was an option to switch between displaying laptimes and points. That way we could see who gets the most points while also going fast.
