What is your thoughts and opinions

What form of "budget" are we talking about? Because I can be almost certain the GU Patrol and R51 Pathfinder don't fit in it.

Also, the best budget off-roaders are anything made by Suzuki.

Murcie

the pathfinder and patrol are kinda cheap if bought used and there are cheaper than the new patrol 2010-2013 for example

and the pathfinder is cheaper than the patrol

Perhaps instead of avoiding the question I asked with information I'm already aware of, why not just say what the actual budget is?

Ford Bronco. Cheap, reliable, various engines, huge, cheap aftermarket.

The Nissan X-trail is much more of a budget SUV than a Pathfinder, Pathfinders are expensive...here anyway. Toyota RAV-4 and Honda CRV would be good budget contenders.

Actual off-road capability out of the box?

That list should probably start with the Toyota 4Runner and FJ, and should be quickly followed by the Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee. Of course, it all depends on the market you're in and what's been made available in the market. The Chevrolet Tahoe/GMC Yukon would generally be my pick for larger SUVs, due mostly to civility in the city and overall dependability. But, the weight is going to hurt it off-road, and it's going to require some modification to get truly capable out in the bush.

For true off-road performance, I'd go looking for an appropriately ready pickup out of the box. In the US, the Ford Raptor and the Toyota Tacoma TX Pro would certainly be the best options out of the box. Nissan did offer a similarly equipped Frontier, as well.

I mean, I'd have my dad's Pathfinder in an instant, however it cost AU$55k (and they're a whopping AU$72k new), and he's spent $20k in mods. It's hardly a budget SUV anymore.

Here, the list starts and ends with a GQ Patrol or 80 Series LandCruiser for true budget off-road capability straight out of the box. GUs are still commanding too much money, as are 100/200-series', and the X-Trail and Subaru Forester are far too soft-roader.

Suzuki Jimnys, Sierras/Samurais and Vitaras are great but need a couple of mods to get where the big guys go.

Old Jeeps here are a nightmare for parts, Land Rovers are a nightmare for servicing, and the giant American trucks thanks to the necessity of an RHD conversion cost well into the $100ks to buy. Pajeros are mainly bought by the people who can't afford a LandCruiser or Patrol. Not as reliable, not quite as capable.

So to summarise the Patrol would be my pick from the OP's list because in order to get the excellent Renault-Nissan V9X turbodiesel in the Pathfinder Ti550 you need to spend big bucks, whereas $15k less will get you a GU with the TD42 which, while not on par with the full-size LandCruiser offerings, is probably the second-best turbodiesel Nissan ever did, the V9X being the first.

And since the full-size LandCruiser is not in the list, I can't pick that and the Prado isn't up to snuff.

In stark contrast to the Ti550, here is my idea of a budget SUV:

$650 and went everywhere my dad's old GQ went.

The reason i didnt put a jeep because there not really My Favourite plus there Really faulty if not taken carefully

and the suzuki is not good when your selleng it because its Not popular

and landcruisers hold their value so if im buying an early 2000s model it will be expensive

Lada Niva. In my area, at least.
Very "budget", but not as hardcore as an UAZ - somehow comfortable. But the drivetrain noise...

Among the suggested options, I voted for the Tahoe. But in my country, it's not really budget.
