I prefer the paddles rotating with the wheel method as this is easiest for me to find them and fastest. Also, my hands are right on them 90% of the time.

I like to shift with the method that the car I'm driving actually uses in real life.

I use the DS3 as my controller. However, I set shifting to Automatic but because of this thread, It reminded me to try out my shifting skills & see If I have the productivity like in NFS Shift.

I would prefer the H pattern with clutch but the g27 is not available right now so I had to settle for the DFGT. With my current set up I prefer the paddle shifters when using the wheel. When I am using the ds3 I set shifting to the right stick, up to shift down, down to shift up mimicking the stick on the dfgt.

Other,
I use a controller I use R2/L2 to shift.

I prefer the Clutch and Shifter, but try and use whatever the car has installed whether it be Auto, Stick, or Paddles.

DS3 here....R1/L1. I'm usually M/T, but with certain cars I'll use an automatic transmission. The '87 Buick GNX is an example...this car was NOT offered with a manual tranny in real-life.

If I had a wheel, it would definitely be H-pattern with clutch most of the time. I'd mess around with paddle shifters for some newer exotic sports cars, and also full-scale racers.

Which wheels definitely support the H-pattern with clutch by the way? I see HondaElement says the Downforce GT. Are there any others? So I know what to look for when I finally get a wheel?

I have the driving force GT wheel, in the slower cars (400HP EK hatch) I'll shift with the little shifter and with the faster cars I use the paddles and it also depends on the track, if it's a track with a lot of turns (the ring) I use the paddles .

The g25, g27, porche wheels and a few others have clutches, I know for a fact the g25 and g27 have the H pattern and clutch that is supported for gt5. The driving force gt the logitech wheel I am currently using only has a up and down stick similar to paddle shifting, no clutch and not H pattern.

I prefer to use whatever the car I'm driving is set up with. I really would like to use a sequential shifter but my G27 does not support that.:grumpy: The car I drive the most is my ZR1 RM which has a sequential so I have to use the paddles.

Awesome, thanks. 👍

Not really a preference if you're stuck with a controller that only does one thing and not the others, the poll won't be too accurate in giving you a picture of what people like as much as what they are 'stuck' with, I think. That being said, I have a DFGT and i prefer to use the 'paddle' buttons except for tight turns when it's difficult to reach them, so I switch to the sequential gear stick then (not very realisitc, I know).

Me too, but if you make me choose my favourite method, I'll say paddles that rotates with the wheel 👍

I enjoy using the H-pattern with the clutch.

Using the paddles is alright but when I want to get sucked into the game, I want to make it feel as realistic as possible. If I'm driving a car that uses paddles in real life, then I'll usually use paddles but most cars I drive in the game don't have them.

Paddles that rotate with the wheel for paddle shift cars and H shifter for normal manual cars, unless I'm hot lapping for which I'm not yet practised enough with the H shifter go back to the paddles.

Shifter and clutch for shorter races, Paddles for endurance races.

Since my real life car (06 M5) had paddles that rotate with the wheel, I like that the most for a sequential option. Although, to be honest, I used the sequential console shifter frequently in that car as well.

I do like traditional manuals, and my current Porsche has this setup. I preferred the SMG on my M5 because the thing was just so wicked fast that you couldn't keep up in a full throttle acceleration if you used a traditional manual. The SMG just made more sense.

For anyone who voted paddles that don't rotate with the wheel, you are missing the whole point of paddle shifters. The paddle shifters are there so you don't have to take your hand off the wheel when shifting, with the paddles that don't move it ruins that. I know that you'll all say something about full lock and it being hard to find, but your not supposed to do full lock in racing, just when your driving in general.

i typically go 1st to 2nd, then 2nd to 3rd, and lastly 4th to 5th, and need be 5th to 6th, in the redbull/FGT/benz(with 7 gears) i just focus on not smashing into a fence.

me too,

but I have to admit that when really need to concentrate (close racing) I mostly use the padels.

This needed to be an option in the poll, its how I drive, but I selected paddles as thats the kind of car I'm in more often.

I haven't tried paddles rotating with the wheel, used to play with fixed paddles. Just wondering with a rotating paddle, how do you tell which one is which when you rotate your wheel by few hundred degrees in a race?

Sequential shifter on the DFGT. I hate paddle shifting.
