Being from the GT type of old school I for one would have much preferred a GT7, but, looking into the online future of the young, maybe GTS is a complete stroke of genius. What say you ?

Owned and played them all, to be honest I think the PS3 era of GT sucked so I'm really happy that they changed the direction of the game. It lacks a lot content at the moment but it's a good base to build on.

As much as I adored GT1,3, and 4, I think the "GT Mode" was born out of restrictions, rather than necessity. Online gaming wasn't really a thing back then, and while p2p, and a few dedicated servers were used by some games (Quakeworld, Ultima Online come to mind), they were definitely not up to Kaz' visions. As soon as there was the proper infrastructure for online gaming (which I think was around the time Everquest, and later WoW got big) I for one stopped playing singleplayer games.
Seeing that most recent online AAA titles kinda shoehorned lacklustre campaigns onto their core gameplay just to "tick boxes", I think campaigns are a thing of the past, with online gaming all the better for the lack thereof. I'm not talking about narrative driven RPGs, which much like a book will remain an experience for the indivdual, but any competitive game should be played vs human opponents, and not A.I.

So, in short, yes, I think Sport Mode is GT's (and racing games') future, and no, I seriously don't think that there will be another "oldschool" GT with a fully fledged "GT Mode".

I think overall that PD have made the right "call".

It might be a little early but that is the way gaming and the automotive environment is going whether we like it not.

PD have insight into this through their contacts with manufacturers. FIA too have expressed concern over future of motor racing and E Sports will increase over next few years.

Who knows in years to come we might be playing a GT Game on the move whilst AI drives the 'real' autonomous electric car to our destination !

As I understand it, GTS is the platform for esports and as I've enjoyed watching iracing, I imagine I'll enjoy watching GTS just as much. Hopefully from in game (rather than on TV) so I can control how I view it.

It's too early in the game's life for a proper verdict but I see it as a very solid base.

GT Sport is the only racing game to come out this year without some kind of career mode. (For now, anyway. GT League coming later this month kind of contradicts what you’re saying.) Dirt 4 and F1 2017 have pretty in-depth campaigns. PCARS 2 has a big career mode despite being used for e-sports. Forza 7’s career mode is long as well.

It’s too early to say that campaign modes for racing games are a thing of the past or that Sport Mode is the future for racing games.

I started playing games online using a modem back in 1997, single player has been dull ever since. Any game I've played which had a story mode or career mode, I only played till I had completed it, playing it again would be like reading a book again or watching a film again. Something I can't bare, where as some people I know would watch the same film over and over.
It's nice that this game will be giving people with slow or no internet connection something structured to do, but this 'future' was the future 10 years ago already.

I voted for the first option, but none of the options truly capture my thoughts.

Racing against other people and finishing 5th is 1000 times more satisfying than crushing the AI for an easy win. This is the primary reason why I voted for the first option.

However, the lack of cars and tracks limits my ability to pick a car/track combo and time trial against myself. Also, I'm afraid that Sport Mode will get old without some more tracks. I'm hopeful that the DLC updates get the content levels closer to where "GT7" should have been.

The lack of career mode was my biggest concern before buying the game, and now that GT League is coming later this month, it's another step towards "GT7".

GTS is a great baseline, and DLC is pushing it in the "GT7" direction that it needs to go.

I voted "GTS is the future which I would prefer" but this includes the upcoming GT League content that will give GTS more single player content like traditional Gran Turismo games. Speaking of upcoming content, there is lots more coming for this game: cars, tracks, other surprises! Currently the car and track list is definitely lacking but I am excited for future content, for good reason. Kaz and PD have been much more active supporting this game than with any previous GT release.

I really do like the Sport mode daily races and FIA-sponsored Country and Manufacturer championships. Online lobby play is an obvious need in current gen console games.

I must be the only one that is satisfied with the car count.
Sure, there are some I'd like to see (and, please, no more "make-belive" cars) but if PD said that's it for cars, we're focusing all our attention on getting mores tracks in the game I'd be very happy.
Online racing, my initial thoughts... pfff... whatever, bunch of dorks and geeks... I'm showing my age here but get your pocket protectors and slide rules out for combat...
My current thoughts... I'm addicted.
