Poll: Most ridiculous car to race in gt5

Another thread about biggest & smallest cars went off on a tangent about ridiculous cars. And it gave me the idea to poll on what is the most ridiculous car...
Perhaps I haven't hit them all, and feel free to add your 2 cents.

Perhaps if you mention a ridiculous car I missed, I'll consider it in future... ;)

At this point, I'm just going to poll on some cars possibly thought by some to be "ridiculous". And then start working my way through organizing some online races with those voted most ridiculous. Because that's just the way I am. :trouble: I will persist in this folly! ;)

Volkswagen Schwimmwagen typ166 ‘42
Volkswagen Kubelwagen typ82 ‘44
Subaru SUBARU 360 ‘58
Citroen 2CV Type A '54
Volkswagen typ2(T1) SambaBus ‘62
Jay Leno Tank Car '03
Honda LIFE STEP VAN ‘72
Suzuki GSX-R/4 Concept '01

You might notice that I have left out the Volvo Estate Wagon and the Autozam.
That's because I've already organized races with those. :) ;) :sly: 👍

Any of the pickup trucks, there's something satisfying about beating sports cars with a big truck, that's fun, and yes even ridiculous :p

Oh but... there ARE pick-up truck races in real life... so racing them in gt5 doesn't seem all that ridiculous...
Though now that I say that out loud it sounds rather funny.

My vote would have to go towards the Schiwwmwagen or Tank Car. I ended up going for the tank car.

tank car... Prefarably at Nurburgring to make it even more point less

There are 2CV races in real life too, an endurance one at that. Click here

I wish I could've voted for them all. There are far too many ridiculous cars in GT5, but I went with the Volkswagen Schwimmwagen typ166 ‘42, just coz I had to pick one.

I run a room and sometimes do a ladder race where we run street cars only (no racecars, RMs, or concepts) and increase the horsepower +30 for each race, any modifications allowed. In several power classes I have a goofy/obscure/WTF car that will win 90% or more of the time, so many that my friends sometimes call my garage the toaster collection. Keep in mind we only use one track and all of these cars have EXCELLENT tunes specifically for that track, they aren't out-of-the-box champions.

Under
98hp: '70 Honda Z Act (dubbed the "Demon Shoe")
118hp: Schwimmwagen (4WD gives better grip over Kubelwagen)
128hp: '89 Mitsubishi Minica Dangan ZZ (10,000rpms of fury)
147hp: '74 Triumph Spitfire (the wing still doesn't help)
167hp: '99 Honda Insight (no one ever wants to lose to this)
177hp: '98 Mini Cooper
207hp: '79 and '83 Civic 1500 (toss up as both are under 730kg)
216hp: '78 Mitsubishi Mirage 1400GLX (that HUGE wing is beyond hilarious)
236hp: '02 Nissan Cube (undefeated, dubbed the "'Tard Toaster")
246hp: '91 Nissan Sivlia Q (nothing like a brown naturally aspirated S13)
266hp: '01 Peugeot 106 Rallye (uneducated Americans usually think it's slow)
285hp: '98 Toyota Corolla BZ-R (tell your friends you got beat by a Corolla)
295hp: '00 Fiat Punto Abarth (935kg HOT hatch)
305hp: '93 Mazda Lantis Coupe Type R (a 4-door coupe, a Superbird wing)
315hp: '00 Chrysler PT Cruiser (it's purple too!)
325hp: '90 Honda CR-X SiR (park bench wing)
355hp: '01 Renault Avantime (constantly it's actually faster than an Evo!)
374hp: '93 Honda Civic EG hatch (aqua green and a huge wing)
394hp: '00 Fiat Coupe Turbo Plus (no one has it, I tell them it's a hybrid)
404hp: '01 Honda Odyssey (moms in minivans are the fastest things on the highway)
434hp: '00 VW Beetle RSI (people tend to rage quit with this one)
514hp: '02 Mitsubishi Airtrek (Ferraris and Corvettes losing to an SUV)

I also have alternates I can swap out for most of these cars just to keep everyone laughing harder. By now my Cube, PT Cruiser, Odyssey, and Airtrek have become somewhat of a running joke at our ladder races. My room regulars laugh about how my Odyssey and Airtrek stomped their expensive sports cars. Any new people either think we're pulling their leg or they say there's no way their *insert supercar name* can be beat by a minivan. I'll pass them yelling the kids are late for soccer practice, then they lose and can't stop laughing that they really got beat by a van!:sly:
My friends joke that the laws of physics don't apply to my cars!

My Schwimmwagen is actually very fast for the under 118hp class, properly tuned it handles. I voted Life Step Van, the most ridiculous race I've ever participated in was 1 lap of Eiger Norwand K Trail Reverse, 250PP max! I ended up in a Life Step Van and 6 of us laughed hysterically trying to get up that hill!

I just recently ran the A-spec 1000km Suzuka endurance with the Suzuki GSX-R\4 and won, so I'm wondering why it's here on this list, and why you don't have the Daihatsu Midget yet???

Have a good one

GSX-R/4 Concept is actually a favourite of mine.
BUT, it IS better than it ought to be...
And I think that's why I've gotten a lot of ridiculing comments about it in the past.

But the cars that are really better than they ought to be are the Kubelwagen & Schwimmwagen. Their handling is OUTRAGEOUSLY better than it probably ought to be.
Like the guy above mentioned.
In a way, they're cheater cars (in the right setting), because they shouldn't really do as well as they can, I think.

As for the Subaru 360 ... there's no amount of tuning it seems that could make that thing not rather atrocious handling. ?? And that seems a tad odd.

The 2CV can be upgraded... and is actually then better than a lot of other low hp cars stock...
But that seems to be universally treated as if it's the most ridiculous car in the game. And I've never quite understood that myself.

As for the Tank Car...
You know, I've never driven it. I think I might have one. (It's a gift car so I probably do..)
I have NO IDEA actually why a lot of people consider it ridiculous. I never gave it any thought before, and now I'm quite curious.
Recently, on another thread, it was mentioned a few times in ridicule.
And I recently got together a Volvo Estate Wagon race... and a couple people commented, "What's next, the tank car?"

I just didn't even see the comparison, myself. But then... well, why not?

Apparently lots of people think the Sambabus is quite a hoot to drive. I have to say, it was rather entertaining when I tried it on some Mt. Aso tracks. ;)
That said, there is something of the ridiculous about putting that van on race tracks & racing it in competition.

The fact is, you pick any car in the game, and someone's going to think it's a dumb car to race, for one reason or another.
I dare anyone to come up with any car that SOMEONE doesn't think is stupid.

To keep it simple I think the handling of the Lamborghini's, especially the chrome line, is really poor :(

Gotta vote for the Subaru. It's right up there with the Mini Marcos as the most annoyingly ugly cars in the game. Imagining the cars designer looking at this and saying; "that's spot on!" is truly a ridiculous thought.

My ridiculous vote goes to that useless DLC Beetle, stock it barely moves tune it to go at a reasonable speed and it won't go round a corner without rolling on its back no matter what tune I try, truly ridiculous, it would have been a waste of REAL money if not for its only redeeming feature that with a semi racing exhaust and a bit of engine tuning it makes one of the best noises in the whole game.

That probably says more about your tuning skills than the actual car which is great when properly set up, I race them very often in a dedicated room and have a lot of fun doing it.

I love GT series for many ridiculous cars, Its very cool and fun to drive on them, sometimes driving historic cars is even more fun than racing!

Voted for Tank Car, but that dosnt mean I dont like it.. I love it, just like I like Jay Leno!

PS. I prefer racing slow cars more than fast.. since I have a G27 I get pleasure of driving any car!

Agree, I haven't managed to roll either of my fast Beetles yet? Full tune and mid turbo (plus the right gearing) and it's not bad at all, indeed quite a punch at the torque peak. I have got a rally one which, admittedly, does look a bit ridiculous with the big wing.:)

I'm a bit of a Kei fan: Scooby 360 is good fun, especially drifting, and is only slightly worse than other RRs IMO for troublesome handling; the Life Step Van is OK, but not as good the mighty Honda Z. This is tuned of course - they are all a bit pointless in stock form.

Voted for the Schwimmwagen (just over Kubelwagen), mainly because the driver seems out of sorts perched on top.

They're not my tunes though, they're ones I've got from here, every one I've applied has been the same topples over on ever corner, god knows where I'm going wrong I've never had trouble applying other peoples tunes to my other cars only that beetle.
I'm a big fan of hot hatches so really wish I could get it to work.
