I was kind of curious how many people are using the optical audio jack on the PS2.

I personally am using it with a Sony STR-DE895 and can't tell much of a difference between the toslink and audio cables, but it still soulds sweet passing cars with 6.1 audio.

Let me know what you are using or have your PS2 hooked up to. :sly:

Optical -> Crappy DD5.1 receiver -> JBL speakers... Sounds ok.. Uses this setup for the PC and the PS2...

I used to have my PS2 hooked up to a Yamaha 5.1 home theater system. It sounded great, much better than the RCA jacks. It's not in my room anymore, though, so I'm not using optical anymore.

I used optical cable since i bought my PS2 3 years ago. Honestly I don't hear any major difference. I think mainly because most PS2 games only support 2 channel (front speakers), very few games really need the power of opti cable (surround sound). Even GT3 doesn't had surround sound.
have a good set of amp and good speakers are important. but have good speaker cable and audio cable are more important as well.

by the way, there's very funny thing. long ago i bought initial d (PS2), it doesn't have any audio, so i went back to the store and they said i need to unplug optic and use ordinary audio cable, isn't that funny!!

We don't have any special speakers attached to our TV/PS2 but the optical RGB cable makes a HUGE difference for the screen quality. Now it is a lot easier to read the smaller letters on the screen.
