I am asking this because it came up in conversation the other night between my friend and I. He drives an 01 Gran Prix GT with the 3800(?) engine. Its the 200hp V-6 a step below the GTP model. Anyway, his car has like 135k miles on it, and it just started to burn a little oil. He was kinda worried about it but I dont think its that big of deal, my Prelude uses around a quart between changes and its still chugging. So does anyone have one of these cars that can give me some insight on how much oil they burn between changes?

I am not a fan of these cars at all, and I think they have some of the worst build quality I have ever seen. I have another friend with a Grand Am GT and its been in the shop for the intake manifold 2 times, and several other times for random things not working like they should. My girlfriend also has a grand am SE, and that thing is a piece of work too.

As long as it isn't going through more than a quart at a time, I think you're within a normal operating area. We've got a '99 Grand Prix SE with the optional 3800, and while the build quality isn't exactly "solid," its mechanically sound. Can't complain when Grandma gave it to us for free...

+1

But they actually drive kinda well... and the driving position is fantastic, especially in the last gen ones (04-07?). Drive a supercharged one and you might actually be impressed!!

My dad owned two GTPs before switching to his Magnum.

Yeah build quality sucks, but that car was fairly quick; it would even do burnouts.

.....but after about 100k miles they start to wear out. The battery is below the headlight and the serpentine belt blew out on us while going over the grapevine.:scared:

Let me finish this unfinished statement...

The body style of my friends 01 with the supercharger (GTP) is actually just as quick as my Prelude until we hit a corner

Good looks, comfy, but seriously lacking in the overall build quality.
