Pop up or Spyware?

I'm so mad right now, I can't even surf the web without beign interrupted by so many pop ups, (there are currently 5 pop ups open, that I close every 20 seconds). Anyways, most of the pop ups are from the website: www.offeroptimizer.com. I dowloaded a time trial of Spyware from www.download.com, and it says that my pc is infested with the following spyware:

Winactive
Comet Cursor
Lycos.

Are these pop ups related to any from the list above? and if they are, how do I get rid of them?

EDIT: I forgot to mention, I have Windows ME (Millenium Edition)
 
Thanks guys, I was able to bring my pc back to almost normal, I usually scann every friday, some do return, but still, using Spybot, I'am able to get rid of them, but why do they return back?

Avenue A, Inc.
Commision Junction
FastClick
Meda Plex
ValueClick

The pop-ups from www.offeroptimizer.com have not return. But I do get unwanted ads from other sources.
 
get the google toolbar onto your system and stop going to all those damn porn sites.

Seriously, they're probably coming from some site you constantly visit. Also, run adaware as well as spybot. Adaware gets the stuff spybot misses and vice versa

try running the programs in safe mode (tap f8 when starting the computer) that seems to find more of the spy/spamware also keep your antivirus up to date AVG is a good program to use if you dont have one:nervous:

Hey dude, I'm not into internet porn, so I don't visit those sites. This is a short list of website I visit alot:

State of Nevada

I basically like looking at GT Planet, at the Urban Legends Reference Page, at any metal merchendise, and I enjoy exploring and looking at the state of Nevada.

My mother uses the computer in the morning to play solitaire before leaving to work, but not the internet, its only me who uses the net.

Edit: My older brother used to about 2 years ago, but he bought his own, so he doesn't anymore. He mainly used it to look at soccer results. SO, yeah, its only me who uses the net. hope this bit helps
