Hey guys, I don't have time to search the forums for this. Ever since I started coming here, I get these really annoying pop-ups (i.e. Tribalfusion) and advertisements rolling across my screen every time I come to the main forum page. It is insanely annoying because my pop-up blocker tries to stop them which prevents me from being able to mouse-scroll without clicking, and then the pop-ups open in another window anyway. If I don't delete them, then I could have 15 different IE windows open after reading a few threads.

How do I stop this? FYI, my pop-up blocker is set to HIGH (the highest setting) just because of this site and it still doesn't stop them. This is THE only site where this happens to me.

If its only one popup, why not just circumvent them and sign directly into the main forum by going to Gtplanet.net/forum? Or if that doesn't work, why not just take and go into your pop-up blockers settings and customize it to block ads from tribalfusion?

What is ironic is that you had the time to create a new thread and type all of that up. I'm sure a search would have used < or = to the amount of time you spent on a new thread. It is topics like this that are the reason you don't "have the time" to use the search function because there are way too many useless threads to search through.

With that said, this is a free forum but hosting and bandwidth are not free, hence the pop ups/ads.

The end.

I wouldn't know if you read my post or not. But 👍

I'm surprised just one ad can annoy someone. It only happens when you sign on. How could this be an annoyance? On the plus side I use Chrome still, so I don't get the ads.

Something doesn't sound quite right about your issue. A visitor should never see more than one pop-up in a 24 hour period, and you probably won't even see that one until after you have viewed several different pages. It's set up this way by design - I view the site with all of the advertisements myself, and I won't run anything that I consider intrusive or annoying.

I suspect your 'pop-up blocker' and/or other security settings are actually making things worse. Although this may initially sound counter-intuitive, their overzealous 'blocking' mechanisms can actually break the way advertising servers keep track of what ads have been shown to you, thus making you 'appear' to them as a completely new visitor each time you load a page. As such, it will keep sending you pop-ups, your browser will keep trying to block them, etc.

tribal fusion is also the most spyware riddled ad company out there. it's on top of the super contamination list by spyware removers.

try using another browser as well. I have less problems when i stay away from the likes of IE or Firefox.

That simply isn't true, Sniffs. Most 'spyware' removers absurdly extend the definition of the word to include cookies. Tribal Fusion displays advertisements on thousands of large websites, and subsequently comes in contact with 72% of all internet users. As a result, Tribal Fusion's cookies end up on all those computers. 'Spyware' removers, (eager to provide you with results so you'll think they are working), pick up the cookies in their scans. Anyone with a technical understanding of how cookies work, however, would understand there is no serious need for concern.

Jordan, thanks for your reply. I'll give it a go with the pop-up blocker on low setting and see how that works. You do understand my problem which is that every time I hit the back button, I get a fresh set of ads, and I never actually click on the ads, I just close the new window.

By the way, when I try to "search," I am unable able to get results, as though two words like "popup blocker" are not enough for the search tool to use.

It really shouldn't make a difference what page you're going to - you should never get more than one pop-up every 24 hours, no matter what page(s) you are loading and reloading.

yes, and, unfortunately, when we switched computers, the cookies slowed down the processor even more than it did the last one. there's a significant increase in loading speeds with some browsers after I remove cookies, which I try to do once a week at least. since my mother shares my comp, I'm doing maintenence a lot more than usual. almost every page she looks at for ideas for her craftwork tends to have hard spyware tacked on. we accumulate at least 60-80 cookies per day, which is why i don't go outside the sites I regularly visit too often.

we never had cookie problems at all with our first computer.

Sniffs, I can assure you that cookies are not to blame for 'slowing down your processor' - they consist of only a few bytes of data that are included with your request to a server to view something on the web (such as a page, image, video, etc.). They are a foundational technology used by nearly every website that you visit, and their potential for abuse is very limited. 60-80 cookies per day is completely normal and nothing to be alarmed about. You don't have to take my word for it, though. Visit the the link I posted earlier to gain a better understanding of what they are and how they work.
