Porsche 911 GT3 RS Performance Points Bug.

I noticed today, there seems to be a PP bug with the 911 GT3 RS, maybe other cars as well, I haven't tried any others yet. This is with a fully lightened vehicle, SS tires, carbon brakes, race pads, race computer, and power restrictor, everything else stock. When adjusting the power levels the PP jumps all over the place. I know adjusting the Computer, opposed to the power restrictor, generally allows you more power, within the pp range. In this case for instance, if I set the computer to 70, and the restrictor to 98, I get 371hp, and a pp of 639.46. 100 on the computer, and 72 on the restrictor gets me 391hp, and 647.02 pp. Bump the restrictor up to 73, and you get 396hp, and a pp that jumps to 674.75. Both set to 79, and you get 338hp, and a PP of 648.27. Both set to 82, and you get 364hp, but a lower PP of 641.93. These are just a few examples with this vehicle, of what is occurring.

I did just notice, if you run both at 100, with SH tires, the PP is 682.68, but with SM tires it's 681.87. As for the torque, 100 on computer, 70 on the restrictor gets you 380hp, 292.8lb/ft, and a pp of 647.35. 70 on the computer and 100 on the restrictor gives you 378hp, a significantly less amount of torque of 245lb/ft, and a substantial increase to the PP to 660.44. This is just one example.

Thankfully, as it's quite hard to parse in prose form.

Are you seeing a substantial difference in the power/torque curves? The PP calculation is - as you may recall - purportedly arrived at from a quick simulation of the car's laptime (somewhere) by the AI, and a car with a lower peak torque or a broader, flatter torque curve may be easier to drive. That'd result in a higher PP despite the headline numbers appearing lower; you'd probably see the same (especially with a 911) with a heavier car due to ballast if it's shoved forwards.

That's not to say that the PP simulation isn't without its quirks, but there's often a lot more going on than just more power = more PP.
 
The flatter torque curve down low occurs with the more powerful setting, but drops off more significantly, at the top end where you're into the power though with the computer at 100, and restrictor at 70. I also noticed, that with these settings, if you switch from SM to SS tires, the PP drops from 648.46 to 647.35.

It's all over the game and I agree with you that it is not a "bug", it just looks like one. I used the McLaren GT3 with medium turbo when I noticed it. I could get down to 725pp with MUCH more power using the output adjustment instead of the power limiter. However, when you check the acceleration performance, you see that that higher horsepower comes with less performance.

Ergo, lower performance points. Not a bug :)

What about a lower PP with the grippier tire option? As tires are generally the best way to instantly improve performance

There's variance & imprecision factors with the PP values, directly related to one or several other factors that can be changed/adjusted but it is not a bug, as pointed out by others before me. One can or could make similar arguments about some cars that have good or bad grip with racing hard tires, before and after the latest update. It is by definition not a bug but controversy & more or less imprecision compared to earlier versions and/or the real world.
 
That is weird because I noticed the same thing on the same car today.

I had a 699pp tune for the 992 GT3 RS before the 1.71 update.

After the update, this tune was 700,80pp or 701pp.
It was 497HP with the ECU at 87 out of 100.

So today, I wanted to get it back under 700pp, so I used the power restrictor (-1 click, so 99 out of 100). Then it was 491hp but 680pp. Now if I put the ECU at 100, I have 560HP and 698pp... there is just one value (ECU set at 87) where the PP are above 700pp. That is weird.
 
The ECU lowers the power output electronically across the whole rev range, while the power restrictor restricts the airflow into the engine, which mainly reduces the power output at high revs.

So even though you can reduce the engine to the same peak power figure with ECU as with the power restrictor, the performance will be very different between the two methods, especially if the gears are spaced far apart.

When the PP figure is dancing around when you make tiny adjustments it's an indication that something in your setup makes the car unstable during the simulated lap. For example, too much power relative to the weight, so that the AI has trouble with loss of traction at low speeds, or too high centre of mass combined with too grippy tyres so that the inner wheels lose traction while cornering.

More power and more grip doesn't necessarily have to make the lap time quicker. There's a performance envelope where it does, but when you reach the boundaries of that envelope it starts causing problems.
