The Porsche 911 Turbo 930 '81 Challenge:

Run 25 laps at the Sardegna AII track and beat the very strong X-Bow R with a lightly modified Porsche 911 Turbo. Extra points if you can win the 25 lap race cleanly (which I have not yet been able to do with these restricted specs for the 911 Turbo).

The basic specs for the 911 Turbo are as follows:
--- HP=298 (101%)
--- Wgt=2723 (95%)
--- Tires=SH/SH

The 25 lap race is run as a custom/arcade race at the Sardegna AII track with the following race criteria:
--- Start the race in 20th place
--- No boost
--- Tire wear = 1
--- Fuel usage = 1
--- Rolling start
--- Rolling start interval = 128 feet
--- PRO level
--- Against N300 grid which has the X-Bow in 1st place
--- Prize money should be $134k

=============================================
I have now run this race five times and find it very hard to beat the X-Bow cleanly:banghead:, but have found it to be an entertaining race.:) The X-Bow is the only car that you have to worry about since you will lap all the other cars in the race. Some cars get lapped twice!! Polyphony Digital has done a poor job of balancing the cars for this race, however it makes for an interesting race if your objective to run a clean race, since the other cars frequently hold you up and they don't hold up the X-Bow very much at all.:( The following are some pictures from my most recent race win (which was nearly a clean race, but sadly:guilty: had a couple of incidents):

On lap 25 the race leading X-Bow is held up by the 15th place Supra RZ:

I decide to make my move for the race lead by passing both cars on the right side:

Three wide with the Supra RZ in the middle:

We are now both ahead of the Supra RZ:

Side by side with the X-Bow:

The race lead!!!
It only took me 52 minutes and 27 seconds!

The X-Bow goes wide thru the final corner:

Timing monitor after the race:
MOV --- 0.370 sec
Race time = 52:53.1
X-Bow BL = 2:04.313
GTsail4 BL = 2:03.903

Give this 25 lap race a try if you are interested in a decent challenge.
You can modify the Porsche 911 Turbo's specs if you want to make the challenge slightly easier or harder.
Feel free to post your results in this tread if you have any success!
Good luck!

I tried this challenge again with the same specs for my Porsche 911 Turbo and tried very hard to run a clean race (two small incidents) and lost by about 1 second.:grumpy: I caught the X-Bow with a couple of laps to go, but couldn't find a clean way to get past.:(

Since I really want to win this race cleanly, I decided to give my Porsche 911 a 1% horsepower boost.
So my Porsche 911 Turbo had the following specs:
HP = 301
Wgt = 2723
Tires = SH/SH
So I start a new race and chase after the X-Bow again.....
On lap 25, I catch and pass the X-Bow going thru turn # 2:

My race time was 52:48.446:
MOV was: 0.451
Best lap: 2:04.087
X-Bow BL: 2:04.154

A close race!:)
But sadly it was not a clean race. I had a couple of minor incidents. I skimmed both a wall and the X-Bow:ill:.
I will try again.
:cheers:

So this race needs to be 25 laps long in order to even catch up to the X-Bow?

Generally, its been taking me about 16 to 20 laps to nearly catch the X-Bow. However, at this point in the race you also catch up with all the backmarkers for a second time and they slow you down significantly. Its hard to pass all of the backmarkers quickly/cleanly, so you end up losing time to the X-Bow and so you need the final laps to work your way thru the traffic to catch and pass the X-Bow.

Another try with the Porsche 930:
Specs:
HP = 301
Wgt = 2723
Tires = SH/SH

Laps 7, 8, and 9 are very consistent:

At the end of lap # 24, I'm 1.5 seconds behind the X-Bow

During lap # 25, I get no closer to the X-Bow so I finish in 2nd place 2 seconds back::(
X-Bow BL = 2:03.901
GTsail BL = 2:04.218

The race was entirely clean, so I almost achieved my goal!!!:drool:

Another try with the Porsche 911 Turbo:
Specs were again:

Up to this point I had been running a clean race, however, to get the race win I cause some contact when I push:guilty: the X-Bow to the edge of the track as we cross the Finish line:

The timing screen shows that I won the race by 0.015 seconds!:eek:
Lost the clean race bonus though.:(
X-Bow BL = 2:03.161
GTsail BL = 2:03.587

I will try again

Finally, a clean win with the Porsche 911 Turbo 930::):D

I purchased a new Porsche 911 Turbo and gave it a new tune.
My 911 Turbo still had the enhanced specs:
HP = 301
Wgt = 2723
Tires = SH/SH

Race time was 52:54.344
MOV was 0.721 seconds
X-Bow BL = 2:02.881
GTsail3 BL = 2:03.998

Interestingly, I was actually able to pass the X-Bow on lap # 24. You can see me below as I pull alongside the X-Bow since it was very slow on the corner exit:

49035333553_8fcfd53aa9_k.jpg

My Porsche 911 Turbo has a slim lead over the X-Bow:

49036057007_e78f8843a7_k.jpg

The X-Bow quickly came back past me when he dives inside my Porsche as we drive into the final corner:

49035341408_bea9222975_k.jpg

And then on lap 25, the X-Bow leaves room on the inside of the final corner:

49035847986_7d8fcf5592_k.jpg

I dive to the inside of the X-Bow and put two wheels in the sand to keep off the X-Bow:

49035850181_15ec80d5af_k.jpg

As we exit the corner, the X-Bow still has the lead but I'm almost alongside:

49036081127_f1c4f59b69_k.jpg

The X-Bow goes wide on the exit from the corner and gets stuck behind the R33 GTR:

My Porsche 911 powers past both cars since the X-Bow is well and truly being held up by the R33 GTR::)

My Porsche 911 streaks ahead to the Finish line for the clean win!!:)

Great fun!!

I've tried :) ...
I had a first unfinished attempt yesterday that saw me quite a bit off. I didn't know neither car nor track, so I was unable to close the gap to the X-Bow significantly. I then quit for a couple of hotlaps just to get up to speed and meet the required pace.
My second attempt this morning was successful, partly at least as it wasn't a clean race. I had three or four minor contacts with opponents and graced guardrails twice :embarrassed: in the first half of the race - the second half was all clean though.

I overtook the X-Bow for the first time in lap 15.

IMG_0695.JPG

He lost control before that second tight righthander and went wide then which opened the space to slip through on the inside. The X-Bow fought back, regained P1 on the mainstraight and we actually had a close battle for about four laps.
Lap 21 brought my overtake for the win - the same scenario again. I was able to stay ahead however and I finally managed to get another opponent between us which opened a three second gap.

Crossed the line with the following result :

It's not been a clean race but I'll leave it at that, as again I realized I just can not find real fun in racing AI.
I'm ok with simply knowing it's doable :D !

Anyway, this indeed is a nice challenge so thank you @GTsail 👍 ... a good find !

I have tried with the original HP and weight specs, I finished 2nd 9 seconds behind with not 1 but 2 spins when I caught a single blade of grass with rear tire. I can run as fast as a 2:03.8 but my normal laps are in the,2:04-2:05 range, is this quick enough to win without a spin?

If you can do 2.04 / 2.05 laps as long as you don't have traffic, this should be quick enough for a win. I haven't been any faster than this in my race. Like you I had a high 2.03 as a FL.
