By 1939, the KDF-Wagen (VW Beetle) has reached it's final production form. After the first batch of 44 1938 VW38 cars, 50 cars were built in 1939 dubbed the VW39. However, Ferdinand Porsche, the man responsible for the design of the VW, wanted to create high performance demonstration prototypes to show to the public but also for personal use for himself and his son Ferry Porsche (who would also create the Porsche 356 nine years later). These cars had the same engine used in the famous Porsche Type 64. Unlike the stock VW39s, these few cars boasted 32HP with a top speed of 90MPH unlike the stock version's 22HP and 62MPH top speed. Porsche's goal was to build 50 of these high performance cars along with the stock VW39s but due to WWII being right around the corner, 14 were only built. Chassis number 1-00003 is the only Porsche VW39 in existence today which has been restored recently.
