I'm right now looking at buying an MP3 capable CD walkman, and I want to know some good, affordable models that are easy on batteries, have good durability, and have good anti-shock since I want to go jogging with it in the summer.

Also, is a Sony Atrac player as good as it seems, or does the sound quality get destroyed when compressed?

well...sound quality will go as you drop the bitrate - always. never use less than 128kbit/sec compression with crappy headphones and never less than 192 for even half-decent equipment.

I'd suggest an MD player or a flash based mp3 player. They're decently priced nowadays and they're far more durable than cd players.

iRiver is apparently the best manufacturer for portable MP3 CD players. They range in price from 60 bucks to 200. You aren't going to find a flash MP3 player that will hold 700 MB for under 60 bucks any where. The CD option isn't as portable as the flash based MP3 player, but it should work for you.

Flash based MP3 players have no moving parts so you don't have to worry about skipping ever.

It all depends on how much you want to spend. I don't know what is affordable to you so it's hard to make a recommendation.

Yeah, ive got a Phillips Wearable Digital Audio MP3. Its only a laughable 64mb, but thats most of my playlist anyway. Its really tiny and looks cool...

There's a new Creative Muvo out now. The Muvo2. It's got 1.5GB of HD space and it sells for £170.

I've got a 64mb Muvo the now and it works fine apart from the fact you can't get much on it. The new one will solve that.

I have the 128mb muvo, it's been pretty usefull as a storage device as well as an mp3 player. Although i've moved on to bigger things now, with the Creative Zen Extra 60gb's of music/data storage. I have about half my collection of CD's on it and i'm still in the process of ripping them to it. I use the LAME mp3 encoder at 160kbps and it sounds better than any portable music equipment i've owned (this is with the same pair of in ear sony headphones I have had for about 4 years.

When I get a new car stereo (When I get a new car) I can also hook it up to that if it has the correct inputs.

An MP3 player would be a good idea, but I need something that can play all my albums, so I still want a CD player. But thanks for the ideas anyway!
