It's definitely a silly looking idea but I am pretty sure the Move would be much more precise at tracking your head position than the face tracking. It may even be much less CPU and memory intensive.
It's a sort of big active Natural Point trackIR (the tracking system for PC). The tracIR is very precise in games like rFactor or GTR and has no dead zone.
But ok, wearing a MOVE on the side of a GT branded cap will definitely make us look very weird
a specific version of the MOVe with no vibration or controller button what so ever would be enough actually. And no need to make it big enough to be held in a hand. Eventually the sphere could be smaller too as the needed range of depth is much more limited. Only the acceleromter and batteries would be needed. It would make everything much smaller I guess and almost wearable.
Would the market be big enough for Sony and PD to consider developing the solution? no sure unfortunately...
Another simple solution would be of course 2 or 3 LED dots on a cap like the trackIR does. but it's so much less funny looking
