My friend and I have always wanted to get an old car and just fix it up. Recently my friends mom gave him the ok to use the garrage to use for fixing up a car. So me and him found a maroon 5 speed mkIII vw golf gl 4 door. Its in a back lot at a local dealer and he said he'll sell it to us for 500 dollars (which means 400). We got both of our parents ok's and we plan on going halfsies on it. The car is not working but the body seems straight for the most part. I know about 6 kids with MKIIIs who know them inside and out that can help us out and swap/sell/buy parts with. Neither of us have taken apart a car before and this will be a good learning experience even if we mess it up.

The car has nice teardrop rims and a beige interior but needs a lot of work. Tommorow we are going to check it out again with a few mkIII gurus and see what needs to be done. When the car is done my friend is going to use it for daily driving (if we fix it) because he doesnt have a car yet.

I really hope this doesnt fall through because this would be a good learnign experience.

Pics please. That'd be a fun project if you get it. I'd love to get ahold of one of those myself--that is after my Camaro, Shelby Daytona, and Z28 project (I'm about to have.)

Good luck with it 👍 I'd love a project car but don't have the space. Nor the money for that matter!

As JCE says, get some pics up :)

Update

Today me and my friend went to the dealer and found out some more info. The cars battery is shot, but if its able to start if the car is jumped. The clutch is bad but I found some clutches of the web for $130. Besides a few flats thats the only problems that are known. I took a few picturs and will try to get them up soon:tup:. We are probably going to pick up the car this week sometime, towing is 30 bucks btw:dopey:.

put some steelies on it, tune the poop out of it, and take it to your local track and go race it, see if you can re-coup some of your cash by betting with the other drivers

So you fund half the initial cost (plus additional cost, and hours of labor I would assume) and he gets a car?

Want to be my friend? I've even got a project car!

If we do end up getting it running hes going to buy my half out. But if we part it out I want in:sly:.

post #1000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍:dopey::dopey::dopey:

So you would just sell off your labor and half the car for about 1 and a half times what you paid, right? Even if you did that, he could still turn around and make a profit off it. just stay in and have fun with it, auto cross it or drag race it.

Well when it gets working (if) hes going to pay me back the amount I paid on it and the car would be his because he doesnt have a car. I just want to be a part of a project car and say I had a part in it and it was part mine. If we part it out well split the profit.

Its going to be hard, but you'll definatly have a good time with it. Those car's are good car's, and It can't have too much wrong with it considering no crash-damage on the body. Shouldent take much, although the crazy low price scares me (i know nothing about pricing lol)

Good luck with it! and Have fun! I wan't Pic's of progress!!!

I went to the dealer again its missing a distributer and the ignition coil is bad. We are going tommorow and talking with a mechanic to find out more. Despite all that we are probably going to get it sometime this week.
