I had a terrible scare this morning, my wife thought I forgot the PS3 on and just shut it off. In reality, I was running an endurance race in B-spec

So I ran to the console to check that my game save was corrupted. Everything was fine!

Is it possible to corrupt the save if this happens? I had a few sweaty moments there as I waited for the GT Home screen to appear with my level 34/36, but I only lost the Suzuka 1000k race (bob had finished but I hadn't got to the console yet to congratulate him).

I think it only corrupts your data if you shut down the machine while it is saving or loading a save.

The most common way files corrupt is when something goes wrong while a file is being saved. I don't think the save game is ever written to during a race.

Ive had PS3 system errors from sudden shutdowns.
Not too likely but always possible

Yes but only when the games saving I think. I had that happen to me earlier in the year. My PS3 froze so I had to turn it off and when I turned it on, the main file had corrupted. Fortunately, I had a back up on my laptop from a few hours before.

Are you backing up the whole PS3 or just your GT5 save?

Oh, and how? :)
Just the games I play regularly. Basically, GT5, Uncharted 3, Uncharted 2. I copied the data to a USB stick, put the USB stick in my laptop and drag the files into my documents. Also, I was about to dupe something but got distracted and when I came back, I forgot I hadn't backed up to the USB. To get the data from the computer to PS3, just reverse the above processes.

You da man!

P.S. I've sat in your avatar :) Donington Museum, 1995. Edit: correct that, it was the '89 I sat in not the '88.

In reply to your question... No.

Additional 'information': Something similar happened to me ~half a year ago. One day, I was racing at the LM 24Hrs (B-Spec) with a Pescarolo C60 Hybride (pretty ambitious, huh? :sly:), when it was night, I decided to sleep, then at the next day's morning, I found my PS3 turned off! Later, I was told that it's my father :grumpy: So I was forced to play the event again with a X2010 (:D), and of course, I/my B-Spec drivers win it with ease ;)

A tip to avoid the same thing happening...
Put a memo telling others not to turn off your PS3 on the console, that would work. Well - at least for me :p

That must have been awesome.

Have you been to the Donington Museum? I left the UK in '95 after living there for 5 years and have not heard much about it since... But it was an awesome hall of F1 gods. I saw the H16 on an engine stand (across the alley from a RR Merlin, of all things!) and loads of other stuff that have all left a sharp impression on me (the LEC is a bit too eerie though...).

The MP4/5 was the pukka Senna car too, as they repaired the tub after Adelaide. I later worked with Brundle's mechanic from Brahbam (who's car Senna hit on the Adelaide straight), he said the Brahbam was a mess and was amazed Senna drove the Maclaren back to the pits!

Ah, but I digress... Thanks everybody for settling my worried soul! My GT5 save will be backed up shortly.

No I haven't. I don't live that far away either. I'd love to go there someday because it seems like they have a lot of good stuff.

Anyway, back on topic.

What i do is delete my gamesave on my flash drive BEFORE i copy the new one. I've heard of people getting into trouble because they are just overwriting and if it`s already corrupt...well you know the rest:crazy:
