Is it possible to update GT5 without internet? I don't have computer internet, and I at least need to get the Spec 2.0 version. The version I have is 1.08. I understand that there's GT5 XL Edition, I don't really want to spend $40 for a updated version of the game.

That was the way I updated in the past, but they've lost internet too. Lol

I wonder why Sony allows USB System updates, but not game updates.

Hackers can also get into the PS3 with USB System Update.

3rd world. Texas. It's like Ethiopia, w/o all the food.

How is Texas in any shape 3rd World?

My friend has v1.0 because of no internet and I had the dis-pleasure of playing it, I forgot how bad things were, I am not over exaggerating when I say it is/was terrible, extremely poor - bug infested - complete mess of a game!

UPDATE A.S.A.P!

Can't steal internet with all the stupid WPA and WEP codes.

Rent XL, update, return XL. Solves some of your problem.

Get the interwebs, you're missing out.

^^^^ Will the game still boot up after with his original disc or would he need to keep using the XL disc after it updated with that disc? I've not tried it since I have the 'net, but I could see this not working as desired. After updating via XL disc, the game data will be looking for that updated disc when booting the game in the future, I've a feeling that if that disc isn't inserted in the ps3 it won't boot the game up properly, if at all. I could be wrong though. Maybe it will work since our original discs still work with updates through the current version. It would be a quick and easy way to update if there's a store available nearby that rents games and has GT5XL.

Back up your save, then try.

But then again, I don't know if you can rent GT5 XL, I don't think video stores will buy a newer version of GT5, more than a year after the original release.

But it's worth a try if possible.

For people saying "steal wifi"... Easy with a portable device, good luck with a PS3 and a TV. You'll also need one heck of an extension cord too. Unless you live in a high rise, if you live in a single house... forget it, 99% of the time, it's password protected.

if your phone can be used as a wifi-hotspot, enable it, connect your ps3 to it and DL that way.

if your phone cannot be used as a wifi-hotspot but can be tethered via usb to a pc, use the pc to share the connection to the ps3

if your phone cannot do any of that, get rid of it

be aware of your cell phone data plan bandwidth limits. if i'm not mistaken, spec II was 1.2gb.

...and get real internet.

How about going to an internet cafe or a place that has free Wi-fi? Of course, I'm assuming that Texas has those, too. Does it matter if you use a PS3 or a PC to access their internet? Buy a cup of joe and relax while your PS3 updates. ;)

Well, getting a TV there might be an issue though. Unless you also bring a laptop or small monitor and use the video in. ;)

It might take a couple of hours to update from 1.08 to 2.05. And the cafe could close before the update is finished.
