We all know about not running people off the road and driving backwards. What are some tips and info you can add.

Overall I know there are rules in racing. Is there rules about blocking people? How about weaving through cars?

Actual racers, please post..

In F1 you can only make one movement offline then you can return to your line, anything more is considered weaving and can lead to a penalty or warning.

If you had an 'off, then you need to be aligned with the track when you come back on, not blocking any signifagant part of the track.

It's the overtakers responsibility to make the pass clean.
keep at least 2 wheels within the whitelines (this is ussually before the kerbs)

Don't wreck your teammate.

If you gain a position by cutting a corner/chicane, give it back.

Accidents happen, but if corner/chicane cutting becomes a pattern it's likely to get a penalty.

lol, I didn't even know that was a rule lol. Sometimes if I spun someone out on accident, I would slow down and let them pass and try again to pass them cleanly.

It's not a rule, it's a respectful gesture.

--------------

Only rejoin the course when it's safe.
Obey blue flag rules (if you are being lapped, get out of the way safely, don't suddenly swerve out of the way in an unexpected manner)
Do not block (use your own judgement in terms of defending your position, other players will take notice)
Leave PLENTY of room in T1 and in braking zones (far too many racers miss braking zones after drafting, it's terrible)
Don't be the annoying one in the server that constantly flashes your lights and honks your horn)
Have fun!!!

If you spin off the track wait for other cars to pass before getting back on pavement, do not dart in front of cars going much faster than you.

If someone is approaching you from behind, going much faster than you, move over to the right, let them pass on the left.

In V8 SuperCar racing in Australia I believe there is a rule that when passing on the inside into a hairpin (or any tight corner) that you must give way to the outside car if the front of your car is not sufficiently far enough up on the outside car. I'm not sure of the exact rule but I believe it is somewhere around the b-pillar.

But then I could also be completely wrong. Never happened before, but there is a first for everything.

Drive carefully like you would in real life. Don't hit other cars, avoid overtaking in tight corners and roads. Patience is key to being a good driver.

If you hit someone from behind it's your fault regardless of the other drivers braking pattern.

1. Use only Racing Soft tires.

2. Don't draft. Ever. It might as well be illegal, since the overtaking driver automatically assumes all blame for bad moves made by the overtaken driver, including but not limited to absurdly early braking and swerving into you at precisely the worst moment.

3. If you get stuck behind someone who brakes early and doesn't know what's going on behind them, your race is over right there. If you try to pass them, you'll get wrecked and then penalized.

4. It's better to total your car than to lightly tap someone's bumper. This rule was OBVIOUSLY inspired by real-world racing rules.

5. If someone brakes early in front of you and you run into them because you couldn't stop fast enough, you have to let them through and pass them again. After all, they do that all the time in real life. Oh, but you're still going to be penalized because you were supposed to know somehow that he was going to brake early.

The rules on contact much depend on the championship. The f12010 championship I was part of had a no contact rule however the karting champs I was part of didn't mind contact aslong as it wasn't malicious and didn't punt anyone off.

In real life karting it is common for a driver behind you to be tapping you in the rear bumper allong straights. and there is also lots of sidepod rubbing. This is all part of kart racing and how I tend to race online, some people in some championships call this reckless. I think how I drive is fair however some people don't. So allways check with the race organiser before the race.

Use brakes not other cars ;) That's for new people

Learn a track a don't brake in stupid places ;) Going very clean and slaming in someones back because he thought the track goes other way is priceless..... HAppened to me at Nring just before long straight. He slammed hard brakes on exiting as i was drafting close behind him:dunce:

One more thing:

If you know that you will be last still continue race. You don't want to be first in 59/60 lap when 12 from overall 13 people just quited game.

A lot of fun comes from "racing" alone not just being 1st. So if you know that you lose still try to put a fight. You will be amazed sometimes that from your 5th or 12 place you menaged to improve by 5 places or still be first. S**t happens always and not always for you.

I remember last week that whole race for 15 laps i was 4th and 3 other cars were racing in 3 second from me I was hopeless but i still continued. On last lap thay spun off before carusel all 3 off them i just watched and slowny drive past them with grin on my face :)

Never block others on the straights more than once, especially if he's going 40km/h faster than you.

Racing in GT5 is about enjoying, not winning all the time. Always try to keep going, even if you've been rammed off, or being in last place. Real-life drivers (apart from Damon Hill:D) cannot quit mid-race.

The do's & don'ts of how we as GT Planet members should be racing online are cleary written down in the OLR, click it, read it & apply it. Also, I wrote an article about good racecraft, comparing all the various kinds of drivers I've come across since I first started racing online in GT5 Prologue & it still applies to GT5. If you're intereseted in having a read then click on the link in my signature.

Racers need to know when to over/undertake and were NOT to.

I cannot count the amount of times i get passed @ schwedenkreuz, Fuchsröhre and Tiergarten at nordschleife and end up off the road or in barriers.

Its even worst when they say "sorry for tapping you man, i just wanted to get by, it was not intentional"

If someone is approaching you from behind, going much faster than you, move over to the right, let them pass on the left.

You never deviate from your line. Unless keeping it holds back the lapping traffic (F1). General practice, if being passed by a far superior car, HOLD YOUR LINE. You are much more predictable that way. A vastly superior car will have no issue going offline and around you. Very important in class based racing (ie LMP vs GT). Certain tracks do have different protocols so you have to know them. i.e. slower cars stay low on Daytona's banking,

After doing some endurance events in an LMP car, I could not count how many times the AI would swerve offline at the last second leading to a collision. Obviously Kaz only raced at the 'ring so that's the only thing the AI was taught.
