And so in the footsteps of Shinez...

I see two new users on the forums today - geezus and spartanfan214 - both of whom are gunning for 100 posts so they can get their custom avatars. They have between them 96 (edit 108 now...) posts today alone (in fact they both registered around 8 hours ago) - most of which say "hello i love gt3" or "how do i gt mi own pitcure under mi name".

Perhaps we could have a posts per day limit for non-moderators. I can only suggest 20 or 25 based on my own usage (7 posts per day, 4 forums posted in). Then they would either have to go back and edit their string of 5 consecutive posts, each having one sentence, to be able to post again, or be logged out until the next 24h period starts (either from their time of registration or "board midnight").

Hummm, that would be good for those members that are just going for the numbers, but that would be too exclusive for the other posters that actually "live" on GTP discussing legitimate topics and concerns...

Great concern for the well being of the site though.

:D I find it tough to break into 10 posts a day - at least not without posting the odd one-line sarcastic comment... I can't imagine many people, who are non-moderators at least, breaking 30...?

It's a good intention but I think it might be a bit unfair to those who aren't going for the post count. I know I don't post a great deal, probably not even 20 a day, but what if somebody is having a big discussion about an issue and runs out of posts? The ones who try to make their post counts as high as they can without providng real input are annoying, but it's not as bad as it could be. I've been to discussion boards that its a much greater problem(ie: there is hardly any good topics). If anything, maybe the admins here could make the custom avatar privilage at 50 posts, but I think it's ok as it is.

Well, the way I see it for the discussion posts, it takes around 5 minutes to type a decent length paragraph. If just two people are having the convo, they can post a maximum of 6 an hour between them, and most things will fizzle out before 3 hours is up... It's going to be hard to hit 30 genuine posts in one day IMO.

BTW it says a lot that the two people I highlighted made TWELVE posts between them in the 8 minutes between my post and it's edit... :D

Edit: They're now on 130 between them... that's a little under 40 posts in 30 minutes...

well I'm subscribed to 17 threadsand when people respond I like to respond back....especially now while college is out and I have tons of time....I check GTP like once an hr max while on the comp, sometimes once every 5 mins....so really the limit thing would suck....

Maybee certain users that are identified as spaming should have a limited PPD period then resume normal posting after the "suspension" of full posting rights....If it continues then they can be banned or something....but for the rest of us that, well most of the time, use GTP fairly I don't think we should have to feel restricted....

Mmm, seems like things are pretty much okay as they are... just use the nice big red Report button, or send a PM to a mod who's online (personally, I prefer that), and things usually turn out well. :) I just don't think it's a big enough of a deal to go to such drastic measures... especially since there is almost always a moderator online, so most of the garbage gets dealt with pretty quickly.

NP - the status quo is fine by me (you'll be glad to hear... :D). Although not the band.

I guess Jordan has enough GTP problems as it is at the moment anyway... :D

I'll stick to friendly hints...

i saw this recently also. crx18 or whatever was posting bs everywhere.

i think the solution is simple. make note in the rules when a user signs up "dont make retarded posts to get your count up", just to warn them. then whenever someone sees a user doing this (very obvious), ban them, or tell a mod to ban them....

maybe if you could get this ppd limit go down verygradually as your postcount goes up (disappears at 1000) then that would be better...

Most of the spam I've seen is in the Drifter's Forum and in the Nitto thread...:|

However, I PM'd mods over CRXin18, but nothing happened, I guess they were idle or something...

I personally spoke to CRXin18 regarding his flurry of posts.

The moderators tend to converse with members via Private Messages, so the member community will not necessarily be aware of action. I know we do stuff like close threads and ban people, but our default modus operandi is stealth.

And did he come uop with anything intelligent to say or was it just a one word or (heaven forbid) possibly two word answer?

Like Sage said, I don't think it's a big enough problem to warrant such strict and measures. If you see someone doing bad things, please just report it immediately.
