I'm just curious as to see which you think is more important. Before you say anyhting, I understand a car with alot of power can handle well. I'm asking which you think is more important. Once again, I know they aren't mutually exclusive.

Handling. Definitely handling. On Sydney's busy, speed camera monitored roads, there's little opportunity to exploit decent power - handling can be exploited pretty well anytime there's a gap in the traffic.

my personal preference is handling. a well handling car will obviously be able to take turns faster than heavier counterparts. however, it'll fall back in straights. correct me if i'm wrong but I heard somewhere that a lotus elise managed to keep up with a ferarri in the corners....fell back in straights but caught right up when the corners came. Most of my favourite cars have insanely good handling characteristics but also have more than enough power to be capable of outrunning anything you throw at them (TVR for example)

If the world was perfect, then there would always be a balance, but unfortunately, there is not. Handling all the way.

Well, which would you rather drive around a race track. A Maybach? Or a STi?

Tough choice.

handling!

1000Hp's....imagine the massive fuel consumption of your car...plus, you hardly have the chances of using your car to the full potential.....

Meh, handling is good, but I love real ballsy power for blasting down the highway. Im not swerving cones every single day, so I love to have generous power for making short work of the major straights on our highways.

Handling and power are both obviously very important, but I have to go with handling over power, although just as long as it's not overdone to an extreme, like the Opel Roadster with a 0-60 time of something like 10sec

Handling is far preferable to me. Huge power can be quite frustrating, especially if you're driving a boat, and it simply can't handle the power. I've driven on roads where in cars with far less power I've been able to eek out significant gaps over more powerful cars.

I think that a fine handling car is more rewarding overall. It's more useable.

But then I live in Scotland, where the roads are lovely and twisty.

Quite agree, power without control in no use, even in a straight line

i would have to say that o owuld have to go half in half becuase u can have all the HP in the world but cant turn for crap or u can have all the handling in the world but cant go over 40 mph.... all in all its hard to pick one of the 2.

I'm with you guys, handling all the way. Power is nice, but any jack*ss can drive in a straight line, fast, but it takes skill to use all the racing techniques, like Heel toe, to negotiate corners well.;)

More power the better, I need to pull stuff around and haul stuff. Why would I need to take a coner nicely? I need to pull a heavy trailer donw the express way at 80 mph. Power all the way.

yeah well its cuz u are a drag racer and in drag racing u dont need that much steering..

No your a moron, did you even read my post? I need power because I tow and haul stuff. If I wanted to drag race I would have bought a Trans Am.

if u had a 1000hp beast can you imagine how heavy the block would be, that would effect your handling badly. A perfect example of the not so much power but good steering is my old favourite the Lotus elise. Engine sizes only go up to 1.8 (tiny ickle thing) but because of its light body it has some of the best handling around

most ridiculous post of the year.

now, for it: as I have always grown with a hot rod in my mind, a 1000 hp hemi on nitrous isnt that bad for me, but just doesnt cut it anymore, I want to drive the effin car ._. so I wont have a 1000 hp streeter, but of course I wont have a suspension so stiff that you cant even park because the bump in your butt is too tough. as anyone knows here, the balance 'tween the two is ideal. I dont want a car that cant take a turn in the everyday traffic, nor do I want an autocrosser that is a complete stranger to the word torque. but for what I'd want a car, maybe power would be really better. not a 100 hp, but I would still be far more concerned by power than by adressing a corner at 1G+. of course, I live in Mexico city, where you cant do almost nothing about racing/driving hard, so my needs would be fully suited with a VW bug...

its hard to have fun with a 1000hp car on anything less than a long street or racetrack.

whereas in my little 2200lb rwd car i can have fun at less than forty miles an hour. pick the right mountian road and have at it. in traffic, have at it. point to point. have at it. easy easy easy question.

Most ridiculous post of the year why? ;) I just state my point that i would choose handling/balance over power. Its not always power especially on mountain courses or curcuits. sometimes power can be a disavatage especially in mountain courses watch REAL touge videos not initial D :)

I think if you really need to haul some stuff, get a HD pickup, based on the choices above I'm with DPR, I need some speed on the straight and uphills, but I also need the hanling of tackling the most dangerous twisties especially when I'm cruising at Seven Hills, I need the handles badly.

Perfect car: Honda S2000

It all comes down to what you want to do with the car.

Power is good for some things like drag racing and ovals.
Haldleing is good foor other things like traffic and road coarses.

My personal favorite type of cars is an emerging class of hotrods called Pro Touring. Pro Touring cars do everything pretty well(from drags, to handeling and even long road trips and gas milage). They have a balance between HP and Handeling that makes them fun in most any situation.

I hear you, the Honda S2000 is a great car for track use but at lower rpm you cannot feel the power at all, beside that the S2000 is amazing. Its one of my favorite car, probably not my top 5 nor top 10 but its up there ;) The Honda S2000 is very sexy too!
