I'm trying to do some of the seasonal races and selecting a car for my B-Spec driver, but it's getting very frustrating. The race had a 400 PP restriction and I have selected several sub-400 PP cars only to have the PP change as soon as I select it. No other modifications were made to the car, not even the tires.

For example, I selected a modified Alpine A110 1600S first, which was 393 PP, but then it changed to 426 PP after selecting it. I then tried a stock Opel Speedster Turbo which was 393 PP as well and it also changed to 426 PP after selecting it. I tried an '85 Mazda RX-7 (393 PP) and, guess what ? Same thing (426 PP), a Lancia Stratos (went from 380 PP to 413 PP), Dome-Zero Concept, Sileighty, etc.

I can't even select the cars I would be competing against because the PP is too high!

What can I do, if anything, to fix this ?

I haven't played in several months and wanted to get back into GT5, but this is really turning me off.

Go to the tune menu and retune the car... See if that works
Nope :(

Most of these cars are bone stock, so there's nothing to tune besides ballast, brake balance, etc.

I can limit the power or add weight to reduce PP, but it makes no sense.

A very early patch changed some cars pp. so if you havent been in that car for a while the pp is wrong. Just go into the tune page for the car and the pp will jump to the new number. Its only old cars you got before the patch. I still run into a few from time to time in my garage.

I haven't played in several months

This is why. And the following is a good explanation:

A very early patch changed some cars pp. so if you havent been in that car for a while the pp is wrong. Just go into the tune page for the car and the pp will jump to the new number. Its only old cars you got before the patch. I still run into a few from time to time in my garage.

All cars you got before a patch which changed how PP was calculated retain their pre-patch PP value in the overview screen, but their "true" (post patch) PP value is listed in their settings screen. When you find a car, press Triangle and select settings. That will display the true PP value and that in turn will update it for the overview screen without having to change to the car.

Of course you can just add ballast and turn the wick on the engine down with the power limiter to bring your car into the PP range you want.

Thanks for the explanation guys. It seems like every 350-400 PP car I have is over 400 PP by the new standards. That said, it still doesn't explain why the competition is using 440ish PP cars in the seasonal event (i.e. Honda Prelude SiR '96 is the first car listed under opponents, which is 401 PP under the older standards, but bumps up to 435 PP when I select it).

AI cars are tuned to meet limits with the power limiter and ballast - this is why a 630hp Bugatti Veyron appears in an A-Spec event...

If you check the "typical opponents" list, you can see the power and weight ratings of typical opponents. If the Prelude is on there you can check its power and weight against your 435PP example - and it should be less and more in that order.

When they established the PP system, tires selection was part of it (it was in the PP equation)....but not long after they removed it....so if you didn't pick that car for a long time, chances are good that it shows the PP from that period (tires selection in PP equation)....now if you go on that car the PP will be updated....

The PP system was introduced in the Update : v1.06 Febuary 18th ...If you bought the car before V1.07 and didn't used the car since....PP will be off.

Update V 1.07 (1 week after update V 1.06)
[Fixed Issues]
- Performance points (PP), which is an index of a car’s overall performance, is now calculated regardless of your tire selection. You can now set performance point restrictions and tire restrictions separately when you race in a lounge.

My GT5 Excel spreadsheet is dated April 2011, so I'd guess that's the last time I played prior to this week.

I went through and updated all the PP numbers in my spreadsheet last night (which took a while (!!!) as I have 196 cars and, with the exception for the free 86 GT I got for updating to the most recent patch, they were all from early 2011/late 2010), so it should all be good now.

Thanks again for the insight
