pre-imported game and pstwo

is there anywhere in nyc that already would have either the japanese race pack
(gt4+japanese pstwo) or the two sold seperately? if anyone lives somewhere
else in the states but knows of a chain that might sell it, I'd like to hear about it.
I'm sure I'll get a number of posts saying to mod my ps2, and I've thought about
it but since my current ps2 has started only playing certain games while in the vertical
position  so I don't want to put in 50 bucks just to have it break down
in the process or a week later. Also I'll appreciate having a region 2 (or whatever
region japan is) dvd player and I definitely will be playing other japanese PS/PS2 games
with it so it's not a total waste of money like it'd be for lot's of people, or at least that's
what I'll keep telling myself :sly: . Anyways, thanks in advance for any useful responses
cause I really don't want to pay and wait for shipping 👎

bonus q: I can find this on my own I'm sure (although this message board is sprawling)
but what do I have to do to hook up a ntsc/j pstwo to an american tv.

on;y need to worry if it's pla pstwo to ntsc tv and vice versa, but modern tvs usually can do it. my 20 year old german tvs can't :(

go to EBAY and look for locations in new york. Or PM me and ill have it shipped to you in 5 days through EMS :D

5 days is how long it will take for you to get a response here anyway lol

...dude, looks like you're having the same problem as I used to have... it started to read some of the games/dvd's not anymore.. then less and less until I came to the point of just thinking "oh f%&k it"... I openend all the screws of my PS2 (with a lil' knife 💡 , and have been cleaning the ventilator as well as all the other parts of it especially the lens with the stuff you normally would clean your ear :dopey: (obviously very carefully)... closed it again and now working like when I first bought it :)

so a 5 year old american tv will work? there's no information I need to check or
anything?

not for ntsc to ntsc. they are basically the same for japanese and US in terms of hardware. software is read differently.

Don't worry. A japanese GT4 will work just fine on an american NTSC TV. The japanese video system is NTSC, just like USA. The only thing you have to worry is the J indication on the box. The J letter indicates that the game will work only in japanese consoles. You can buy a japanese PS2 and plug it on your TV with absolutely no hassle. Or, if you can spend a little, do as I did: change the laser unit (looks like your laser is worn out; replacing it with a brand new unit will make your console run like new, believe me!) and install a good and reliable mod-chip (I've installed the Matrix Infinity modchip on my 3-year old PS2 - you can play NTSC/J and PAL games perfectly and watch DVDs from all around the world, region free).

Now, it's up to you...
