Pre ordering gets you an additional 40 odd events. This isn't a special version and it cost exactly the same.
My question is this.

Where do you pre order. Amazon UK is available for pre order but there's no mention of bonus content. I'm a bit confused TBH.

I imagine there's a code involved.

I imagine HMV will do bonus content as I got my GT5 from there and got a code of a Stealth Honda NSX GT car and Stealth Audi R10. They are doing a special set for Killzone 3 as well. They may just have some bonus cars and events.

I hope they have the offer for the North American version of the game as well. I would love to get 40 extra events in the game. I completed all the challenges/events in Shift1 and still wanted more.

I have the same problem, and this is what I have found out so far.

US have "Limited Edition" boxed game (from Amazon US):

Limited Edition Extras

Released exclusively as a pre-order, Shift 2 Unleashed Limited Edition contains content not immediately available to owners of the standard game. These extra include:

3 Additional Cars - the Nissan Silvia spec.R Aero (S15), Alfa Romeo Giulietta QV, and Lamborghini Murcielago LP640.

40 Additional Career Events - Race in Single-Type events with all racers in the same car, battle in classic and modern versions of the same car in Old vs. New events, and engage in Manufacturer Showdowns with racers behind the wheel of different car makes and models.

Notice the wording "not immediately available". From what it actually seems to me, those "40 Additional Career Events" could very well be connected to those 3 extra cars you get, somehow "opening" them because of the sole owning of those cars. Presumption, but than again.. it is EA.

Also notice that Amazon US does not have "normal" edition of the game listed at all.

Until further revelations I just think that even our EU pre-orders will be processed with codes, making any pre-order an "Limited Edition".

One possibility is that either they're the Shift 2 equivalent of the HP3 online code, so "normal" or second hand users could buy it as DLC.

Or more likely, that the cars and events are unlocked through play normally, and this simply gives you access to them from the start. As Amar says, you may need those particular cars for those events.

It would seem very odd to me to have 40 events that are unavailable to users entirely if they don't buy the LE. If each event is only 5 minutes, which is about as short as an event can possibly be in a racing game, that's another 3+ hours of game time. Realistically those 40 events are probably going to be worth more like 4 or 5 hours of game time, which is substantial.

Hmm if that's true about content being unlocked anyhow, I think I'd prefer the locked version so to speak.

Dint want to go down the path of overpowered cars and such.
In reality it's just shortening the single player experience.

If that's the case then it's a blessing in disguise. Be able to get a good feedback before purchasing.

Shaun cole does seem a bit underwhelmed by it I must say.

Not bothered about the three cars being unlocked early but if the 40 events are indeed additional content then I might have to gamble. Conundrum.

As the LE is no extra cost I'm betting that the content is unlockable in the full game.
Can't see EA giving free content.

Didn't they do the same thing with Hot Pursuit?

Chances are it's on the disc at shipping but you need the code to unlock it.

I think the cars will be unlocked through normal gameplay (can't see them making the LP-640 a pre-order car ONLY) though it will take you a while to get there. You'll get them on day 1 this way.

But the Events are likely to remain pre-order. Or possibly a paid DLC (but you'll have to wait quite a while). Or there's going to be some griping from those that pre-ordered, and DIDN'T get 'exclusive' content for their faith and money...

Just a heads up for UK buyers.

Game have limited edition available for preorder at 39.99. The only place I can find ATM.
Funny thing is the normal version is available for preorder at 37.99.

Now there's no difference in the discs or cases at all. In fact the deal is if you preorder the regular or only edition if you like. You will get bonus content. As stated on the EA site.

I think game are having a laugh. Cheeky sods.

Thanks

Details on this seem to be limited too. I guess its a bit early. Not many have the limited edition for sale, I don't see any mention of bonuses at most retailers. Just had a look on the NFS site and can only find threads asking where can they find a preorder limited edition with no answers to their questions.

EA DLC handling on any game and especially the first Shift aka Shaft leads me to just probably getting the game a few weeks after release.

I'm not ready just to assume all preorders will get this content yet.

Getting close now guys.
Where are the UK people currently preordering from?

i asked with an email to amazon.uk and they said me that they don't have the ltd... so i preordered it to my local gamestop trading in f1 2010 evaluated 25 euros in italy. Now i'm gonna pay 45.. here games cost 69.. just mad. They give you a code for the events and the cars.. the cars can be unlocked also in the normal game while the events only with the code.

I ordered from Game the limited Edition.. (don't know what's limited about it except they appear to be the only place with it) and used some game points..

so it's mine for... 17.49 GBP result :)
