Pre-season testing not quite over

Last week’s sessions in Bahrain and Spain may have been the final multi-team tests before the Australian Grand Prix, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see cars on track again before Melbourne. Several teams are planning last-minute solo outings to shakedown new chassis or to make vital, eleventh-hour modifications.

Red Bull and Toyota both had their fair share of problems in Sakhir and both will be testing again this week. Red Bull will spend two days at Magny-Cours in France, where they will run their new Melbourne-spec aero package, while Toyota will be at the Jerez circuit in Spain.

Ferrari and Toro Rosso will be staying closer to home, the Italian teams heading to Fiorano and Mugello respectively. Ferrari tester Luca Badoer will shakedown the F2007s that will be used at Albert Park, while Toro Rosso will utilise their session to bed in their second STR2 race car.

And in the UK, Spyker will have test driver Markus Winkelhock at the wheel at Silverstone. The German will be charged with shaking down a third F8-VII ahead of the Ferrari-powered car’s imminent race debut.

The next multi-team test session will take place at Kuala Lumpur’s Sepang circuit on March 27-30, just prior to the Malaysian Grand Prix at the track on April 8.

Toyota need all the help they can get.. Surpised Honda are not joining Spyker at Silverstone, 15 minute drive guys! Oh wait no, they have gone all green, best keep the engines turned off eh?
 
I’m pretty sure only test mileage during the season counts towards the testing limit. So no.
 
I believe the testing limit only applies during the season (that is, from the first practice session in Australia through to the end of the race in Brazil). Thus, during pre-season and post-season testing there is no limit to the mileage that can be covered.
