I never bothered with GT Sport. It wasn't for me, so I can't really say anything since I have no experience with the game myself. Do agree though that PD could've went down this route if they wanted to do the bare minimum.
What gets me is that there wasn't anything inherently wrong with the way the old structure was. I'd totally be down with spicing up the formula, mixing things up whilst doing it in a way that compliments progression within the game.

There was no need to stray away from a formula that was already working though. The first 4 games in the series nailed that down to a tee. GT4 was the peak for it, and it's why it (along with its predecessors imo) still remains to this day as a game that can withstand the test of time, one that you could find yourself picking up to play again. Hard to argue with a formula that worked wonders to get you hooked on the series! ^^
TBH, It wasn't a real career. There has never been a "career" in 30 years. The closest thing to career mode is earning the various license levels. I will bet my life this is all we will ever get, but I will get to a solution below.
This is true, but also frustrating because it proves that they're still capable of doing it, just that they chose not to. Over 3 years after the game's release to boot.

If the overall tone from that didn't leave a bitter taste, I'd be more in support of the Power Pack.
The in game "championships" are there, and this isn't a challenging thing to put together (by PD). So, the back bone for it exists, they simply haven't given us one, but this might be a good thing...more below.
Indeed it does, and we can't forget being able to name the drivers ourselves. Now all we need is the framework to lay out custom championships and we're all set!

It would be so nice being able to have everything done within the game itself and not having rely on a separate application to keep track of things.
Yes, absolutely, it would be great to get a custom championship and this is more likely than a "career" mode.

Right now, I can have any championship I want. I'm currently competing in a F1500 series and an Abarth cup. I have all the F1 seasons from 1990 to 2000, I have one that mimics the 2026 season, I have a Group C series, a 1990's "GTLM" with the F40, McLaren F1, etc. What would make it absolutely killer is the ability to customize the driver's as well, so I can give all the F1 driver's their accurate helmet graphics.

Now, what makes this better is that, being a user generated thing, there is no licensing issue. No one can restrict us.

What sucks at the moment, as you stated, is that there's a lot of manual input to track points and such when using outside software. Organizing the grid before the race is a bit of a pain as well, but it's not awful (I built a qualifying order feature into my tracker). It's far better than the canned championships they give us, especially on the competition side.

If they create a career mode, they'll likely cater to the lowest level player so everyone can succeed. With custom championships, you adjust the challenge.

We're way off in the weeds on this topic now...It should be it's own thread.

The GT Cafe should have been the Paddock like a Cars & Coffee.

Anyway, with the Survey having been sent to some players, maybe they will implement some requests by those players. Maybe a championship “career” could be part of the World Circuit in the next update.

Since English is only my second language & semantic precision included, a career mode is different than campaign mode, but the beginner->amateur->professional campaign/career/progression mode was real in all GT's since GT3, but not quite yet in GT7. But probably before 2027 or before GT8?

It's been a few years since I started the game clean, but I'm pretty sure I didn't have access to all the single player events from the start. I'm pretty sure I had to get the licenses. Can someone confirm?

I know the championships were sequential, so there's your GT7 career mode. And that's really weak.

Open ended championships keeps the game fun.

Wonder if when the car starts it talks like the ambulance. Also, if it has a digital 3d instrument display, that’ll be sick in VR2.

That dashboard is very cool, with some kanjis in there, blowmind. Also that R33 at the end of the video

Man, can't wait to see it in the game (and drive it)

You're correct in that we had to get some or all licenses before progressing the different levels.

Yeah, it's been like that. Always has been for Simulation Mode, but it was when they added the leagues in GT3 when the requirements became more structured rather than all over the place like it was for the first two.

I'll take that, nice.

Edit: actually my abiding memory of the chaser was driving on the dualie close to home one day to see some jdm fans including a chaser, supra, r33 etc, all modded, who then slammed on their brakes nearly causing an accident behind because I had to slam on my own brakes. Why? They wanted to hear their exhausts pop in the tunnel. Idiots.

But... why?

If you have content and a live event, tease the content in the live event to get people to tune in, and then immediately make it available (I'd go Monday - win on Sunday, buy on Monday works here too - but even the following Thursday works if you have rigid schedules to stick to).

Also:

there are some pretty niche cars included

I'm excited for the cars, but I fear I will be disappointed again because none of them will have official Sophy support.

It's been over a year since any new car got official Sophy support, even though almost all of them work with Sophy if you use the cheat. I say almost because I recall that there is one or two that do not work.

I'm sure a Caterham cup would be SUPER fun, but without Sophy, it will be super weak. 😒 I get that they want more people to buy the Power Pack, so give access to custom races through the power pack.

Exactly what I was wondering.🤔

Why would they release the update a week earlier (not that I’m complaining I simply didn’t expect this at all) when they could have shown it in the event. I have two theories:

A: since the cars were leaked they decided to release it a week earlier? (Unlikely since we had known the cars for last update a while in advance but the update still released at the expected date)

Or

B: they have something big they wanna show at the event.🤔 (maybe like they did with the spec III announcement, they dropped the update a day earlier to make a big announcement at state of play)

I’m just speculating but I don’t see any other reason for that. Why throw away a opportunity for viewers at the event then?

As always, don't read the replies to the silhouettes unless you want to be miserable.

Multiple "you're not listening to the community, we want hypercars!" despite, you know, the content of the previous update.
It's hilarious that they can see a car which was so dominant in '90s JTCC racing that it practically turned the series into a one-make, completely ignore it, and demand more race cars anyway. Bot accounts with bot opinions, there's no other way to explain it.

The most interesting thing for me is that Kaz imply it's a "Niche" themed update... Will themed update become the new standard? 🤔
Yeah that also caught my eye, so we could potentially see themed updates become the new standard moving forwards.

Do not take this to mean I think there's something big at the GTWS. I don't, I think this is just classic PD mishandling of live service promotional opportunities.

But it should be at least said - the last time we were all scratching our heads at an update date, it turned out it was because Spec III was getting revealed the next day.

There is form there for there to be a method behind the apparent madness, but do you believe in it? (I do not.)
